The standard custodial work shift hours are as follows:
1st shift: 6:30a-3pm
2nd Shift: 3pm-1:30am (10-hour shift @ 4 days a week)
3rd Shift: 10:30pm-7am
Reports to work at required times and performs duties assigned by Custodial Supervisor including:
Daily cleaning and sanitizing of bathroom facilities:
Daily cleaning of interior facility spaces:
General outdoor services and maintenance:
Provides custodial services for scheduled and unscheduled events:
Safety and compliance:
Inventory management:
Security:
Floor care:
Special events:
Knowledge and skills:

Additional responsibilities:
This position requires a high school degree or GED. 1-3 years of related experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude. Clean and professional appearance.
Must be courteous, detailed oriented. self-motivated, diligent, trustworthy, possess strong organizational skills and well-developed communication skills.
Must be able to lift to 50+ pounds and perform duties of the Custodial trade in typical Virginia Climate and in an indoor/ outdoor setting.
Experience with residential, and/ or commercial/ industrial cleaning (methods and safety) field is preferred.
Working knowledge of safe and efficient operation of electrically and propane powered and manual cleaning equipment. Must be willing to be trained and follow directions.
Ability to carry out written instructions and implement tasks, as well as be able to bend, crouch, kneel, stand, and walk for long periods of time.

Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
Occasionally required to travel to local and off campus locations.
Able to walk and stand on feet for 8-hour period.
Able to physically perform all essential custodial functions for an entire workday.
Able to bend, crouch, kneel, and work on hands and knees, when necessary.
Able to walk up and down stairs.
Must be able to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform duties of Custodial cleaning craft.
Able to perform repetitive motions including, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, wiping, and scrubbing.
Able to operate cleaning and floor machines safely and properly.
Able to work with arms lifted overhead.
Able to work in dusty conditions.
Vision adequate to see dust, debris, and moisture on floors and other surfaces.
Able to work without allergies or sensitivities to cleaning agents, odors, and products used by the Facility department.
Able to clean and sanitize areas when sewage backs up into a facility, or when bodily fluid/excrement is present.
Able to work efficiently and competently individually or as part of a team.
Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily hours as well as various evening hours.
Ability to use radio and telephone to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
Must be able to perform physically demanding work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, and standing, walking, and driving.
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled, interior setting. It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate.
All waste and recyclable material must be removed from the facilities and carried to exterior waste receptacles throughout the day, regardless of weather conditions.
On occasion, employees must be able and willing to work in exterior, non-climate-controlled settings, on occasion, such as athletic/special events and special projects.
Employees routinely clean demolition and construction areas. These areas are often very dusty and not climate controlled. Strong odors are often present from paint, carpet, or other construction products.
Employees may be exposed to blood borne pathogens, on occasion.
Employees can expect to have to work on slippery floor surfaces.
Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
