The Opportunity:

  • Lead a team of 5-15 technical personnel, primarily consisting of ship structural engineers, Naval Architects, designers, engineers from other technical disciplines and analysts supporting ship modification designs. 
  • Serves customers from NAVSEA, NSWC, MSC, USCG and FMS clients to perform new and existing ship structural modification design and review services.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that customers receive accurate technical products in a timely fashion,
  • Meet with customers in person and remote (e.g. NAVSEA, NSWC, USCG, and PEO Ships) to determine future engineering and technical needs,
  • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) of major deliverables developed by team members,
  • Ability to enter and gain a foothold in new markets such as Amphibs, Combatants, Carriers, FMS Programs, USCG Programs, Unmanned Maritime Systems (UMSs) and/or Unmanned Maritime Vehicles (UMVs) other markets in 05Z/05P/05S, etc.
  • Explicit Knowledge of ABS MVR/ABS NVR, NAVY SPECs (e.g., GSO/NCDS/NSTM, TPUBs, Mil-Std) and Commercial Specs (ASTMs/IMOs) and standards is a must.
  • Foster a strong mentorship culture so that young employees receive training and oversight as they mature into fully capable engineers,
  • Support proposal development in the Naval Engineering marketspace,
  • Manage team members’ timekeeping and quarterly/annual reviews.  
  • Coordinate, Staff, train, and resource balancing and sharing with other Engineering Managers and PMs and vice versa.
  • Management and planning of growth focused engineering team: hire resources in Washington DC and all other locations, perform staffing plans, succession plans, touchpoints, performance improvement plans, program alignments, redeployments, terminations, FTO approvals, etc.….
  •  Management and planning of growth focused engineering team, stable revenue, and future growth forecasts.
  • Perform Cost Estimates for new work opportunities.

Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Self-Starter,
  • Ability to Multi-task,
  • Ability to speak and write clearly in English,
  • Good interpersonal & leadership skills,
  • Good organizational skills,
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical, Civil, or Ocean engineering,
  • 10+ years of professional, ship/marine-related, structural engineering experience,
  • 5+ years of experience utilizing ABS SVR/MVR/NVR and Navy/MSC design standards,
  • 5+ years of experience performing finite element analysis,
  • Highly Proficient with FEA/FEM and Design Software such as FEMAP, NASTRAN, AutoCAD, and MS Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills,
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time,
  • U.S. Citizenship, and
  • Secret or higher security clearance.

  • Experience supporting MSC N7 organization.
  • Experience supporting NSWC-CD R&D efforts.
  • Deck Systems/ R&D experience.
  • Shock and vibration, Dynamics, Kinematics experience.
  • Ship Survivability experience.
  • Seakeeping and Stability experience

The proposed salary range for this position is:

$78,700 - $165,300
