Caterpillar is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel to join its Legal Team in Geneva, Switzerland.
The attorney will be responsible for providing legal advice and support on a wide range of commercial and other legal matters in Switzerland and across the globe. This role is a part of Caterpillar’s legal team in Geneva and reports to the Associate General Counsel – Caterpillar Sarl. The successful applicant will serve as a trusted advisor to the business units and corporate functions teams at Caterpillar Sarl. What You Will Do:
- Provide legal counsel to the company on Swiss and other EAME legal matters, including litigation matters;
- Assist with implementation of legal strategies and goals in line with company's business objectives; researching complex legal issues and reviewing and drafting complex legal documents;
- Work with Caterpillar business units to draft, review and negotiate legal agreements; supplier, dealer, and customer requests; and to review related communications;
- Provide leadership, legal expertise, and counsel to Caterpillar business leaders at all levels;
- Be accountable to assess legal risk; and identify and contribute to resolution of legal issues with a broad band of risk exposure;
- Monitor new or changing Swiss and EU laws and maintain knowledge of relevant laws and regulations;
- Provide support on legal entity management and compliance issues related to Caterpillar’s Swiss and other EAME legal entities.
What You Have:
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
- Effective Communications: Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, including business professionals, outside counsel and regulators; ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams within legal and business units.
- Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
- Managing Multiple Priorities: Ability to work independently as well as in a team; able to manage multiple projects and prioritize.
- Legal Function: Significant experience working on Swiss commercial legal matters and counseling; Knowledge and experience on French legal matters is a significant plus.
Degree and Experience Requirements:
- Swiss law degree and/or French law degree;
- Minimum 10 years of law firm and/or in-house experience on Swiss and/or French legal matters;
- Rich experience in transactions, legal agreements, litigation, compliance, and regulatory legal matters;
- A demonstrated record of interpreting and communicating the substance of complex law issues and the ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision;
- Native level French language skills;
- Fluent English language skills in speaking and writing, especially good legal writing skills.
A valid Swiss work permit or Swiss or EU-25/EFTA citizenship is required for this position.
