Job Summary
Academic coaches provide professional academic coaching to students who self-identify, or who are identified by the College, as candidates for a collaborative, consistent, and caring partnership that focuses on a student’s overall academic growth and development. Coaches work with students to address academic self-awareness; building confidence, resilience, and grit; identifying and accessing resources; developing time management and organization systems and strategies; and improving communication with peers and professionals, among other core outcomes. Academic coaches meet twice per week for the semester with students as assigned. Coaches are responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records, earning certification as an advanced academic coach, and attending other trainings.
Meet an individual student two hours weekly to support academic growth and foster effective academic systems and strategies critical to college success
Adhere to the coaching model, which requires understanding of goal setting and fostering the reflection required for student empowerment and growth
Demonstrate a willingness to understand the needs of students with specific learning styles and preferences; unique intellectual development; executive function challenges; and with processing or psychosocial challenges
Master the use of Center’s record management system
Complete required reports about student progress and meet with Director to discuss • Communicate in a timely fashion with Center director about student progress
Attend required training to earn the designation “advanced academic coach” as determined by the National Tutoring Association
Attend required professional development seminars
Support Center initiatives for on-going, non-required professional development opportunities, such as working with an assigned mentor

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Master’s degree in related field required. Equivalent experience considered.
Previous experience in teaching, tutoring, coaching, counseling, or mentoring young adults preferred.
Effective communication skills across all modalities required
Proficient use of, or willingness to learn, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canvas learning management system, email, social media, internet searches, e-schedules, and e-calendars
In accordance with pay transparency requirements, the expected pay rate for this position is $30.00 per hour.
