Job Description: HP Device Manager (HPDM) Administrator

Job Summary
The HP Device Manager (HPDM) Administrator (L2) will oversee the advanced management, optimization, and troubleshooting of HP thin clients and their associated environments. This role requires a deep understanding of HPDM architecture, endpoint management, image creation, and deployment strategies. The candidate will be the escalation point for critical issues, ensure seamless operation of thin client deployments, and lead initiatives for system enhancements and integrations.

Key Responsibilities
Administration and Management
1. HPDM System Administration:
o Manage and maintain the HP Device Manager server infrastructure, including configurations, updates, and backups.
o Administer the deployment and management of thin clients across multiple sites using HPDM.
o Configure thin client groups, policies, and tasks in HPDM to ensure efficient operations.
2. Image and Template Management:
o Develop, maintain, and update golden images for HP thin clients.
o Perform OS updates, driver integrations, and application installations on images.
o Create, test, and deploy templates for uniformity across devices.
3. Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
o Monitor HPDM health and performance, addressing alerts and resolving issues proactively.
o Troubleshoot complex thin client issues, including boot failures, configuration mismatches, and application errors.
o Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring problems and implement permanent fixes.
4. Patch and Security Management:
o Implement firmware updates and security patches for HP thin clients through HPDM.
o Ensure compliance with security policies by managing device certificates and encryption settings.
5. Integration and Optimization:
o Integrate HPDM with other IT systems, such as Active Directory and VDI environments (e.g., Citrix, VMware Horizon).
o Optimize thin client performance for specific use cases (e.g., multimedia, VDI).
6. Automation and Scripting:
o Develop automation scripts for repetitive tasks using HPDM scripting or PowerShell.
o Streamline bulk deployments, updates, and troubleshooting using automation tools.
7. Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain comprehensive documentation, including HPDM configurations, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides.
o Generate detailed reports on device status, deployment success rates, and performance metrics.
8. Team Collaboration and Leadership:
o Act as the primary escalation point for L1/L2 teams for advanced HPDM-related issues.
o Provide technical guidance and training to team members on HPDM best practices.
o Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align thin client strategies with organizational goals.

Technical Expertise
1. HPDM Knowledge:
o Advanced knowledge of HP Device Manager architecture, features, and configurations.
o Expertise in managing HP thin clients, including t430, t640, and other models.
2. Image and Firmware Management:
o Proficiency in image creation, customization, and deployment for thin clients.
o Experience with Windows IoT and Linux-based HP thin client operating systems.
3. Integration Skills:
o Familiarity with Citrix, VMware Horizon, and Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) integrations with thin clients.
o Strong understanding of Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, and network protocols as they relate to thin client deployment.
4. Tools and Automation:
o Experience with monitoring and automation tools, including HPDM scripting, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
5. Security and Compliance:
o Knowledge of security best practices for endpoint devices, including encryption, firmware patching, and access controls.
