Job Description:

 

This Manager, reporting to the Director, Regulatory Reporting and Analysis, is a key contributor in the Corporate Finance team responsible for supporting Sun Life’s financial and statutory reporting function. The Manager will support the delivery of Sun Life’s reporting requirements to various regulatory and institutional bodies globally. Applying broad-based knowledge and expertise in both accounting standards and regulatory guidelines, the Manager will work with business partners, functional areas and technical teams across the organization to provide support and guidance in regulatory reporting. In addition, the Manager, Regulatory Reporting will support the design and implementation of a best-in-class process to centralize and integrate the data collection function across Corporate Finance teams, using existing tools (SAP, Longview, Workiva etc.) and automated workflow capabilities to achieve that outcome.

What will you do?

  • Support the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual OSFI LIFE-1 and LF4 returns, including all applicable schedules, as well as various statutory quarterly and annual filings with other regulatory and institutional bodies, including provincial and foreign regulatory bodies, CLHIA, Statistics Canada, etc.

  • Liaise with local accounting, finance, actuarial and reporting teams across various Sun Life business groups globally to support reporting deliverables

  • Support the design, build and implementation of a technology-driven, data collection and integration process, applying the principle of “collect once, use many times” to minimize duplication and satisfy a wide range of users across reporting and analysis functions within Corporate Finance          

  • Maintain strong and effective working relationships with regulatory bodies and industry associations as well as with other teams across Sun Life globally

  • Review ongoing changes to federal, provincial, foreign and other regulatory and compliance reporting requirements along with changes in IFRS and Sun Life’s accounting policies to assess any impacts to regulatory reporting   

  • Contribute to strategic ad-hoc projects across Corporate Finance and the implementation of new reporting processes and controls

  • Identify and execute process improvement initiatives in collaboration with cross-team stakeholders to drive operational efficiencies, building upon a culture of continuous improvement

  • Participate in the accounting for complex transactions and understand associated implications on regulatory reporting

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting

  • Accounting designation CPA, CA, CMA or CGA or equivalent

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in either public accounting or large, multinational organizations, preferably in the insurance industry

  • Ability to project manage and ensure timely execution of deliverables within a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA (including Fiori and Analysis for Office) is an advantage

  • Experience with Longview or Workiva is an advantage

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
