Job Description Summary:

The Medical Simulationist supports and mentors clinical experts/educators by providing simulation expertise for the design, validation, delivery, and evaluation of simulation curriculum, courses and training that adheres to best practice principles, quality outcomes, and supports compliance with accreditation standards, provides support for operating simulation technology within a healthcare setting. This includes facilitating learning through all forms of experiential learning including high fidelity simulation; computer based training and bedside teaching. They are responsible for the collection of outcomes data that would demonstrate a value for the system.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree, High School or GED

  • with 3 to 5 years’ experience or bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study


SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

  • Education, Healthcare, Experiential Learning, or Adult Learning, Educational Technology or Information Technology or equivalent Experience required.
  • Design and implementation in experiential learning programs.
  • 3 - 5 years of experiential learning and simulation.


DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Clinical license including RN, Paramedic, RRT, or other allied health strongly preferred. Clinical knowledge in any area including nursing, medicine, emergency medicine, respiratory therapy or others preferred but not necessary.
  • Experience with simulation at various levels and modalities preferred but not required.
  • 3+ years experience in simulation preferred. Medical simulation experience preferred.



RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. 25- 40%
Acts with full autonomy in consulting, designing, developing and implementing experiential learning to achieve measurable outcomes. Works with the Education Program Manager to capture the outcomes data and find the best educational approach to achieve the desired outcomes.

2. 10- 20%
Implements educational programs for all clinical areas throughout the OhioHealth system. The Simulationist provides expertise in simulation and debriefing methods to all clinical areas, including physicians, nurses, and allied health.

3. 10- 20%
Designs and programs simulation scenarios for educational programs to achieve measurable outcomes as determined by the Education Program Manager. Works with the Education Program Manager to design, test and run simulations.

4. 10-- 20%
Complete evaluations of the effectiveness and the continuous improvement of all experiential programs.

5. 10- 20%
Measure the effectiveness of educational programs. Measurements include both process and outcomes. Reports measurements to Education Program Manager and to the Simulation Manger.

6. 10- 20%
Works under the supervision of the Education Program Manager or Simulation Manger to manage the business case for assigned educational programs, including the cost, benefit and impact to the balanced scorecard. This may include working with the Education Program Manager or Simulation Manger in managing budgets to meet assigned targets and measuring outcomes in terms of the budget.

7. 10- 20%
Asset with faculty development efforts including the training of program directors, educators and staff. Faculty development consists of both formal training and informal training including mentorship. 8. 5%
-15: Assist MSA staff in regard to their implementation of educational efforts. Works with the Manager of Simulation to ensure that there is appropriate staffing and skills available for each educational effort.
