WHAT YOU'LL DO:

The sales tax accountant is responsible for sales and use tax process including sales and use tax returns, state audits, reconciling GL tax accounts, and advising taxability of customers and products. The successful candidate will have a positive, professional demeanor, excellent interpersonal skills and will be able to work as a team player. The nature of the work will require that the candidate demonstrate initiative and responsibility and be flexible/adaptive to a fast-paced and fluid business environment. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the department and organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Responsible for daily transactional activity relating to sales and use tax across all company’s.
  • Provides support and guidance to business leaders for informed decisioning making and customer invoicing is correct.
  • Provides guidance to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Billing teams to ensure sales and use tax rules are followed.
  • Drives process improvement where possible.
  • Files monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns
  • Files heavy vehicle use tax returns
  • Communicates sales tax changes across the company.
  • Ensures compliance with state and local laws and regulations.
  • Manage real estate property tax payments
  • Acts as main contact for sales and use tax audits.
  • Manages account reconciliations for tax accounts.
  • Assists Corporate Accounting team as needed.
  • Assists with analysis of resale and manufacturing purchases to verify sales tax compliance.
  • Assists with preparation of documentation in support of periodic government and year end audits.
  • Support management staff as needed.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree (B.A.) in Accounting from a four-year accredited college or university, and 2+ years related experience and/or training preferably in a multi-state manufacturing setting.
  • Experience with Vertex Sales Tax Software, but not required.
  • Experience with Netsuite as an ERP, but not required.
