Job Description:

Role title: Senior Speech Pathologist

Role type: Max term contract, part time (28hrs per week, until August 2027)

Role grade: Speech Pathologist, Level 3 (Year 1-2)

Department and location: Speech Pathology, St Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst

Salary: $116,892.00 - $120,680.00 (Pro-rata) + Super + Salary Packaging

New FY26/27 wage increase to be announced soon. All approved increases will be backdated to 1 July once implemented.

About the role

  • Provide high-quality clinical speech pathology services to adult patients with swallowing and communication disorders in the acute inpatient setting, with a key focus on the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including ICU, cardiothoracic, transplant and speech pathology teams, to support effective patient care and outcomes

  • Develop and maintain advanced clinical expertise through participation in competency frameworks and specialised practices, including videofluoroscopy (VFSS), FEES and tracheostomy management

  • Deliver specialist assessment and intervention services, including participation in VFSS diagnostic clinics and providing clinical support to outpatient and community rehabilitation services as required

  • Contribute to service development, evidence-based practice initiatives, clinical research, quality improvement activities and student supervision within the area of specialty

About you

  • Bachelor or post-graduate degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent and eligibility for full practicing membership of the Speech Pathology Australia Association

  • Extensive post graduate clinical expertise in the management of adult dysphagia and communication disorders within the inpatient acute setting including critical care settings and the implementation of evidenced based practice and outcome measures

  • Extensive post graduate clinical experience in the assessment and management of adult acute neurological and critical care caseloads including skills in instrumental dysphagia assessment (VFSS and FEES) and tracheostomy management

  • Demonstrated proficiency in working autonomously with limited supervision and demonstrated ability to prioritise work, apply high level reasoning skills and exercise independent professional judgement

  • Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of quality improvement activities that have led to improvements in clinical practice and patient outcomes

  • Experience in providing clinical leadership, supervision and education for staff and/or students
