Space Systems has an opening for a Mechanical Technician - Level 1 to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals within the Integration, Test, and Launch directorate. This position will be in Redondo Beach, California. Our Spacecraft Operations team is responsible for the assembly, test, and launch of a wide variety of spacecraft and payloads.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Handling delicate flight hardware using proper ESD and contamination control best practices.
Performs mechanical assembly using space flight drawings and process documents.
Performs space flight torque, wire and harness routing, alignments, RF cable installation and bonding operations using various adhesives for thermal, electrical, and mechanical connections on complex structures and assemblies. Collaborating with all stakeholders for tasks. Provide feedback to manufacturing engineers and designers on producibility enhancements.
Typical Duties may include:
Performing assembly tasks using specific process requirements (bonding, drilling, torquing, etc.) to support daily assignments.
Utilizing calibrated tools and shelf-life materials to perform assembly operations.
Working in a high bay.
Ability to work off hours and weekends when needed.
Ability to travel, as necessary.
Take ownership of hardware and report hardware status daily to floor supervisor or TC.
Ability to use MS Office Suite of products to communicate with engineering and leadership.
This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
Mechanical Technician 1: High School diploma or equivalent and 0 years, additional education and/or related experience.
Knowledge and experience with mechanical assembly and operations using at least one of the following: Blueprints, engineering drawings, or written instructions.
Experience using MS office tools and other software.
Demonstrated experience in executing procedures.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance, SCI access
Ability to work off hours and weekends when needed.
Ability to travel, as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in electronic assembly, mechanical manufacturing or integration and test.
Experience working on space flight hardware.
Experience working on flight hardware.
Ability to work second shift
