Location: Hybrid in Adelphi, MD

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks a Teller. Under direct supervision, the Teller performs various routine technical accounting and auditing work, which requires the application of accounting theory and practices.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

1. Performs entry-level professional accounting work, such as processing student payments and departmental deposits. The teller is responsible for tasks requiring great attention to detail, such as posting payments to students’ accounts accurately and promptly.

2. Examine various accounting documents to verify the accuracy of computations. The teller is responsible for verifying, updating, and reconciling records using databases for assigned area(s).

3. Ensures transactions are by applicable authority, policies, and procedures consistent with acceptable accounting standards.

4. Provides 2nd level customer service by reviewing and analyzing student inquires including proactive outreach, troubleshooting issues, coordination with necessary departments/vendors/agencies, and advising students regarding their accounts via email, phone, and face to face.

5. Provides world class customer service to students by meeting guidelines established by the Quality Assurance Team, including responding to inquiries in a timely and accurate manner while adhering to departmental standards for quality assurance.

6. Articulate and promote teamwork, ensuring that work meets established standards of quantity or quality. Assists with the coordination of the unit work priorities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE: Four years accounting clerical experience. Customer service experience and/or cash handling and payment processing experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of bookkeeping principles, mathematical methods and techniques and accounting standards. Skill in performing mathematical computations; in using analytical techniques to reconcile financial data; in reviewing and processing financial documents; in operating calculators, personal computers and related software. The ability to exercise attention to detail in the area of monetary transactions. Ability to understand and explain items within an accounting system. Ability to communicate effectively, to prepare written records and reports; to work independently with little supervision; to supervise and train others in assigned accounting clerical work; to establish and maintain effective work relationships; to operate manual and automated office equipment. Must have the ability to understand the various privacy laws and audit requirements placed on the daily function of the position.

Hiring Range:

$46,736.00 - $48,000.00
