Role Summary

A Software Engineer III is an individual contributor who delivers production-quality software for well-defined components or features within a product or service. They work with guidance from senior engineers to translate requirements into maintainable, secure, and reliable systems that support customer and business outcomes. They are developing deeper knowledge of the systems within their team and contribute to engineering quality, operational health, and team collaboration while continuing to build their technical expertise.

 

Key Responsibilities

Technical Excellence

  • Produces clear technical documentation using the process for technical decision making and RX architectural principles.
  • Builds software with foundations in performance, resilience, extensibility, and security following the Secure SDLC
  • Applies testing strategies that support deployment confidence and align with the Service & Operational Level Agreements
  • Contributes to incremental improvements to code quality, testing, or development workflows.
  • Writes clean, maintainable code and participates actively in peer code reviews
  • Learns and applies team standards, design patterns, and engineering practices.
  • Solves well-defined technical problems with support from more experienced engineers.
  • Shares knowledge and learns from peers within the team.

Operational Excellence

  • Supports the operational health of services and components within their team.
  • Uses logs, monitoring, and metrics to help diagnose issues.
  • Builds systems with operational considerations in mind, including reliability and recoverability.
  • Participates in incident response and post-incident reviews with guidance.
  • Maintains runbooks, documentation, and operational knowledge for owned components.
  • Contributes to reducing technical debt and improving maintainability in assigned areas.
  • Ensures dependencies and security updates are applied to owned systems.
  • Operational knowledge and awareness improve over time through hands-on experience.

Product Delivery & Business Impact

  • Implements well-defined requirements into working software features.
  • Works with senior engineers to break down tasks and deliver incremental improvements.
  • Delivers high-quality software with predictable cycle times and low change failure rates under guidance.
  • Collaborates with Product and Engineering to ensure solutions align with user and business outcomes.
  • Raises delivery risks early and seeks guidance to resolve them.
  • Contributes to simplifying implementation and improving code maintainability.
  • Contributions support team delivery goals and product reliability

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Takes ownership of components or small features within a product or platform team.
  • Communicates progress and technical topics clearly within the team.
  • Seeks feedback and incorporates guidance from senior engineers and technical leads.
  • Builds strong working relationships within the team and with close cross-team partners.
  • Demonstrates accountability, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
  • Begins mentoring more junior engineers or new team members where appropriate.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Typically 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and contribute to production software systems
  • Experience working in Agile cross-functional product development teams
  • Experience translating ambiguous requirements into scalable solutions

 

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in one modern backend stack (.NET/C# essential, Java or Node.js) plus familiarity with SQL/data skills
  • Understanding of system design and domain modelling (SOLID, design patterns, API design)
  • Experience writing unit/integration tests and CI/CD experience
  • Cloud and DevOps exposure (preferably AWS), including observability and operational readiness
  • Security-minded approach aligned to Secure SDLC practices
