About the role
This role is responsible for managing the reinsurance finance and controllership area. The individual hired will oversee a global cross functional team of up to 4 resources. Specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
Internal and external reinsurance operationalization and associated financial booking
Lead a team in financial reporting activities (GAAP/STAT), with a focus on quarterly and annual statutory statements, including Schedule F, notes, interrogatories, cross-checks, etc.
Maintain understanding of large complex reinsurance programs and transactions impacting Schedule F and collateral reporting, including interactions with Actuarial and Ceded Reinsurance business team leads
Work closely with financial controls unit, internal and external audit on reinsurance
Partner closely with collateral management group to work on collateral needs and parental letter of credit
Work with ceded reinsurance team to understand and process insolvent and commuted transactions, as well as brokerage service agreement accruals for multiple brokers
Responsible for key reinsurance finance processes and associated controls
Prioritize and address various broad and individual projects, process improvement and transformation initiatives as they arise
Provide guidance and recommendations as respects reviewing optimal options and solutions to new and existing issues as they arise by leveraging knowledge of existing constraints
Position has visibility at departmental senior management level, and interacts with various levels of internal and external individuals and organizations
Expected to create alignment through thought leadership, critical thinking, direction/context setting and stakeholder communications.
What we’re looking for
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree (finance major preferred)
Advanced degree and/or designation in a related field a plus (i.e. ARe or CPCU designations, MBA, CPA, MS, PhD, ACAS, FCAS, etc.)
Experience
10+ years of relevant experience in an insurance/reinsurance company
Extensive ceded reinsurance experience; managing and leading others; increasing levels of responsibility in a large scale organization
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of reinsurance including underwriting, claims, accounting, finance and associated process, controls and systems
Experience managing reinsurance operations and finance
Knowledge of relevant trends and information within the industry
Working knowledge of financial analysis and financial modeling
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, the insurance/reinsurance markets, and the analysis and reporting of financial data
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources
Technical and/or analytic expertise that can be adapted to current technologies;
Working knowledge of systems and technology utilized within area of responsibility
Strong technical skills in Microsoft Excel, Access, Power Point and Word
Strong verbal and written communication skills with significant experience interacting with executive management and external stakeholders
Strong negotiation, analytical, decision making, problem resolution and organizational skills;
5+ years of experience engaging with diverse teams across multiple countries and time zones
Process transformation and control improvement experience is a definite plus
