Position Title:                        Catering Sales Manager

Department:                          Sales and Catering

Reports To:                            Director of Sales and Catering

Position Summary:              

Solicits local Food & Beverage events and services the Food & Beverage needs of any convention, trade or consumer show client.

Essential Functions:

  • Assumes lead role in soliciting local bookings, large social events, and local one day food and beverage events.
  • Develops and maintains a local customer base.
  • Supervises Sales Coordinator and occasionally banquets.  Trains all other catering managers.
  • Produces contracts and Banquet Event Orders for each event.
  • Develops proposals for potential clients and follow through on pending bookings.
  • Entertains prospective clients of the Convention Center.
  • Reports on a daily basis to the Director of Sales and Catering, information on potential sales leads and existing client relations.
  • Maintains an active role in local hospitality community and professional associations.
  • Attends in-house event-related meetings and relays immediate changes with other departments.
  • Attends client functions to ensure all services ordered are delivered.
  • Develops menus and other projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience/Training/Education:

Required:      

Associate’s Degree or equivalent and at least 8 years of practical sales experience in hotel or convention center.

License/Certificate:

Valid Virginia Driver’s License

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:

Knowledge of:

Marketing principles and public relations

Methods of preparing and presenting effective sales presentations

Ability to:

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Maintain a professional image

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance

instructions, and procedure manuals

Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common

fractions, and decimals

Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or

diagram form

Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Skill to:

Operate modern office equipment including computer, fax, phone, and copy machine

Operate a motor vehicle

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

This position requires regularly walking and standing; lifting and/or moving up to ten pounds.
