Role Overview:
As the Country Manager for France, you will be responsible for driving Groupon’s strategic direction, growth, and profitability within the French market. Your main objective is to scale the business, expand the marketplace, and build a strong supply and demand ecosystem. You will lead all commercial, operational, and marketplace activities while ensuring alignment with global business strategies. This role requires a seasoned professional with strong marketplace experience, an innovative mindset, and an exceptional ability to grow supply (merchant partners) and demand (consumers) simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Business Leadership: Lead and manage all Groupon operations of the Local line of business in France, overseeing business growth, P&L performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Marketplace Growth: Develop and execute localized strategies to expand Groupon’s merchant and consumer base, with a focus on building supply and selection city by city.
  • Sales & Partnerships: Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing sales team responsible for onboarding and nurturing relationships with local merchants, especially in the services sector (e.g., beauty, fitness, dining, leisure).
  • Market Penetration: Drive market share growth by identifying, analyzing, and capitalizing on opportunities in both new and existing cities.
  • Customer Experience: Ensure the best customer experience by partnering with product, marketing, and operations teams to enhance local service offerings.
  • Innovation & Agility: Stay nimble in responding to market changes, competitor activities, and emerging trends. Innovate new business models to keep Groupon relevant and competitive.
  • Team Leadership: Manage cross-functional teams, instill a culture of collaboration and innovation, and build a best-in-class team with a customer-first mindset.
  • P&L Responsibility: Own full financial accountability for Groupon France, including budget management, revenue growth, and profitability targets.
Key Competencies & Skills:
  • Strong Sales Acumen: Proven track record of leading successful sales and business development teams within a marketplace or similar industry. Must have a deep understanding of scaling supply-side partnerships.
  • Marketplace Experience: Experience in building and scaling marketplaces, with a focus on both the merchant (supply) and consumer (demand) sides of the business.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and operationally while remaining flexible and adaptive to market dynamics.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: A hands-on leader with an entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable working in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Innovative & Agile: Ability to innovate and quickly adapt to market trends and consumer needs while driving competitive advantage in the region.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to make decisions based on data insights to improve business outcomes.
  • Leadership & Team Building: Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing teams across diverse functions, including sales, marketing, and operations.
  • Cultural Fit: Strong understanding of French consumer behavior, culture, and regional differences, with the ability to localize global strategies effectively.
Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in general management, sales, or business development, preferably within a marketplace, e-commerce, or service-driven environment.
  • Experience leading and scaling marketplace businesses, with a focus on local services and regional growth.
  • Proven success in P&L management, business strategy, and operational excellence.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with fluency in both French and English.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing cross-functional teams.
  • A deep understanding of the French market, with a strong network of local contacts and an ability to leverage partnerships.

  • Marketplace Leaders: Experience from companies like Uber, Deliveroo, Airbnb, Booking.com, or similar platforms with strong focus on local commerce and marketplace dynamics.
  • Sales-Driven Leaders: Professionals with a robust sales background, possibly from high-growth tech startups or leading corporations that rely on building local supply (e.g., Groupon, Glovo, ClassPass).
  • Innovators & Entrepreneurs: Candidates with entrepreneurial experience in building and scaling businesses with a hands-on approach, capable of rapid iteration and innovation.
