The Specialty Multi-Modality Technologist performs routine and complex high quality imaging exams in assigned modalities. The Specialty Multi-Modality Technologist provides safe, patient-centered care with attention to the physical and emotional needs of patients of all age groups.
The Specialty Multi-Modality Technologist must be willing and able to learn new skills, and is required to maintain annual competencies in assigned modalities.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) or
Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) or
Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) as a Sonographer ARRT(S) or RDMS or CCI certification in Medical Sonography or RDCS certification in Cardiac Sonography or RVT certification as Vascular Technologist AND
At least one of the following specialty certifications:
MRI
CT
PET
ARDMS or CCI or RDCS or RVT-specialty certification
VI or CI or CCI
Mammo
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) or
Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) or
Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) as a sonographer ARRT(S) or
RDMS or CCI certification in Medical Sonography or RDCS certification in Cardiac Sonography or RVT certification as Vascular Technologist AND
The team member regularly works in both modalities and rotates as requested by supervisor.
Team member must meet eligibility requirements for multi-modality role and progress to Clinical Ladder Level 2 within 24 months of hire
Experience REQUIRED:
One (1) year of previous Technologist work experience.
Experience PREFERRED
One (1)-3 years of previous Technologist work experience in either of the assigned modalities
Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment
Education/training REQUIRED:
Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology that is recognized by the ARRT or Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Nuclear Medicine that is recognized by the NMTCB and/or Graduation from an CAAHEP or CMA Accredited Program in Medical/Cardiac/Vascular Sonography or Graduation from a minimum of a 2 year JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology or Sonography that is recognized by the ARRT or Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, JRC-DMS or graduation from a Bachelor’s degree program in Sonography or Vascular Sonography.
Education/training PREFERRED:
Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Radiations Science, Radiologic Technology, Sonography, or Vascular Sonography.
Independent action(s) required:
Specialty Multi-Modality Technologists independently perform or assist the licensed independent practitioner in the completion of radiologic imaging exams. Specialty Multi-Modality Technologists independently complete imaging exams based on physicians written order, department protocols, and institutional safety standards. Specialty Multi-Modality Technologists represent the goals, values, and vision of VCU Health System. Ensures adherence to regulatory standards, health system and department policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines applicable to role. Resolves basic service delivery issues.

Position requires review, signature, and adherence to supplementary job description and scopes of practice for assigned modality locations.
Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific manager or supervisor. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing needs of the health system.
Weekend and other after hours coverage may be required based on workload demand and staffing needs of the health system. Radiologic Technologists are considered “Essential Employees” who may be required to report to work in accordance with the VCUHS Policy.
