Position Summary

This PA role practices at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and will assist coverage at Barnes-Jewish West County with possible future need at other BJC hospitals as needed. Some flexibility in the typical schedule: Five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts. M-F, no call.

Provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician; conducts complete physicals, provides treatment, and counsels patients; may, in some instances, prescribe medication.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • This job is a combination of inpatient care, outpatient care (telehealth and in person consults) and performing basic MSK procedures.
  • Performance of the more basic MSK procedures such as bone marrow biopsy/aspirations, joint injections/aspirations, soft tissue biopsies after being appropriately trained at the direction of the interventional radiologist.
  • Perform a physical assessment/examination and obtain medical history.
  • Evaluate patients for MSKIR procedures and have preliminary discussions about the procedures with the patients and their family.
  • Follow up on concerns/new symptoms/site issues following procedures (telehealth/phone).
  • Resource/guidance to RNs with issues beyond the RN’s scope of practice for patient issues that may arise.
  • See inpatients in consultation for procedures within the scope of practice of the APP.
  • Round on some inpatients previously treated by MSK radiology.
  • See patients in an outpatient clinic setting for consults and follow up appointments.
  • Serve as a liaison of communication between the referring team, the procedure team and admitting team.
  • Bill for professional services as permitted by the collaborative practice agreement.
  • Prescribe therapy or medication as appropriate as per the scope of practice of the APP.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as x-ray, MRI, CT scan, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests.
  • Provides physicians with assistance during medical procedures.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objective, quality assurance programs, safety, environment, and infection control standards.

  • One to three years of experience as an APP.
  • MSK imaging modality interpretation knowledge (CT, MRI, US, x-ray).
  • Spine knowledge and clinic experience.

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
