The opportunity

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Managing Director, Business Partner is a senior strategic partner to executive(s) and senior leaders in dedicated client groups (Member Services, Risk, Strategy & Stakeholder Relations; and Corporate Affairs).  This role will drive strategic people discussions, provide advisory and coaching to increase leader capability and drive leader accountability, and deliver People & Culture (P&C) programs alongside business leaders to drive performance. This role will lead a team of business partners with oversight and accountability to ensure alignment and impact of key deliverables across client groups.

Who you'll work with

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Managing Director, Business Partner will work as part of the P&C Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and will work with senior leaders across the organization. You will partner with colleagues across P&C and oversee a team of business partners.

What you'll do

  • Contribute as an active and collaborative member of both the P&C SLT and the Divisional SLTs to advance strategic people discussions and shape divisional people strategies, culture, and workforce planning.

  • Act as a strategic and trusted business partner to executive leadership and senior management, collaborating on enterprise-wide initiatives within their divisions to drive alignment and deliver impactful outcomes.

  • Lead a team of business partners to ensure alignment and delivery of divisional priorities, cascading strategies from P&C SLT discussions while embedding leadership coaching across teams to drive accountability and strengthen senior leader effectiveness.

  • Build and maintain relationships across the business, working closely with leaders on P&C program delivery and leveraging deep knowledge of divisional talent, while engaging Centres of Excellence (COEs) to anticipate needs and drive business outcomes.

  • Drive enterprise-wide thinking and solutions, creating linkages across divisions to deliver consistent outcomes, while partnering with the CPO to lead culture transformation—setting the tone from the top and modeling Teachers’ values.

  • Execute on P&C strategic initiatives as determined in P&C SLT annual strategy planning

  • Understand emerging people environment, talent metrics and insights.  Drive regular reporting and insights for the division to support business decisions

  • Lead change management and organization design support for division and for projects that impact people roles, reporting structure, performance goals/standards and behaviours. Partner with P&C COEs to advance change.

  • Deliver practical and insightful thought leadership to division leaders, focusing attention on appropriate next steps to address areas of need.

  • Proactively understand and assess the market and the division’s strategic objectives to help devise a strategic workforce plan

  • Promote and drive the execution of workplace diversity and inclusion initiatives in all people processes and activities.

  • Guide business groups/leaders to interpret, reinforce, nurture, and cultivate culture.

  • Coach and mentor direct reports; developing the next generation of enterprise leaders for succession planning

What you'll need

  • Minimum of 20+ years of Business Partner experience

  • Relevant Diploma or Degree (Business, Human Resources, Organization Behaviour or related field an asset)

  • Organization design experience

  • Change management certification or experience

  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate strategy into people solutions

  • Excellent critical thinking skills and capabilities to leverage data and insights to inform talent strategies and decisions

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, and proven relationship building capability at an executive level

  • Ability to partner effectively and deliver in a dynamic, fast-paced and agile environment, and lead through ambiguity

  • Demonstrated experience coaching and developing senior leaders

  • Experience leading high performing teams

  • Strong program management experience

  • Innovative mindset and a desire to keep current on industry best practices and emerging trends

  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset
