Grand Canyon University is seeking a full time Lopes Shop – Accounting Associate. Lopes Shop Accounting Associate will assist in the approval of all Lope Shop invoices, the management of the Lope Shop P-card, the preparation and submission of various reports, and the management of other various financial activities at the GCU Lope Shops

What you will do:

  • Review all purchase requisitions and reconcile open and closed requisitions to ensure they match vendor invoices.

  • Coordinate with GCU Accounts Payable to ensure invoices are approved for payment and paid within vendor terms.

  • Review the inventory levels in the GCU general ledger and the Lope Shop POS system and ensure that they are accurate.

  • Prepare monthly inventory and expense accrual entries; provide variance analysis to management about discrepancies.

  • Assist in the preparation of the Lope Shop E-commerce department's monthly sales tax report.

  • Prepare quarterly inventory adjustment reports for submission to the GCU Accounting department.

  • Assist in verifying revenue and expense activities are booked to proper budget lines.

  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports for submission to the GCU Accounting department.

  • Reconcile monthly P-card purchases and submit for approval.

  • Gather and submit receipts for monthly P-card purchases to GCU Accounting.

  • Interact with internal department staff and vendors regarding purchasing/accounting policies and procedures.

  • Adhere to all accepted organizational accounting practices and procedures and review and approval of financial transactions.

  • Assist with E-Commerce and Lope Shop operations as needed.

  • Assist the Director and Assistant Director of Campus Retail & Licensing with any special projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution preferred.

  • Minimum of 12 months experience in retail/store operations.

  • Experience in retail accounting preferred.

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule which includes weekends, holidays, evenings and/or early mornings as needed.

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background investigations.

  • Strong analytical with high attention to data accuracy; proficient in mathematical and numerical literacy.

  • Ability to apply logic and solve problems and seek out and identify creative solutions.

  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel with ability to utilize advanced formulas and lookup functions.

  • Proficiency with other MS Office Suite products.

  • Fundamental understanding of tracking and reconciliation of expenses; able to follow accepted best practices of accounting management.

  • Basic knowledge of retail/store operations including accounting/cash management procedures and Point of Sale Systems.

  • Good communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and with persons at all levels including executives, managers, and staff.

  • Computer QWERTY keyboard inputting data, preparing reports on a computer or laptop.

  • Requires acuity for planning, organizing, assessing information; multi-tasking; meeting deadlines; using sound judgment; formulating recommendations; and problem solving.

  • Ability to communicate with others through a variety of means including in person, telephonically or other readily available technology.

  • Use of a computer monitor to view, review, read, research, identify data, compare data, identify errors, and reconcile information.
