Key Accountabilities:
Assists in the care of patients with respiratory problems in all areas of the hospital under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist. Develops critical thinking skills. Gains awareness of the role of the respiratory therapist in a hospital setting. Assumes responsibility for the maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment. Assists respiratory therapy staff with departmental processes. Takes responsibility for own professional growth and development.
Qualifications:
Current enrollment in a respiratory therapy program and completion of at least one year of study.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification for healthcare providers
Analytical as well as interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
Highly motivated to learn clinical skills and display initiative
Physical Demands:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
Work Environment:
Typically works in climate controlled environment
Frequent movement throughout work environment
Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
Occasional high noise level in work environment
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients
Use of computers throughout the work day
Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers
