As a Security Officer, you’ll play an essential role in this mission and be a part of our growing organization. You will be responsible for protecting patients, visitors, caregivers and hospital property by conducting regular patrols and enforcing facility policies.
A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 2:00PM – 10:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Protect patients, visitors and caregivers by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and eliminating safety hazards.
Deter vandalism, theft and property abuse by routinely patrolling all hospital property, including inside areas, parking lots and parking decks.
Enforce Cleveland Clinic Akron General facility policies (e.g. parking regulations, visitation policies, drug enforcement, tobacco free/smoking policy, etc.).
Monitor hospital/facility activity on closed circuit television to be alerted to any escalating situations that may require security involvement.
Intervene in patient, visitor and/or caregiver confrontations.
Complete appropriate documentation of various incidents.
Advise Dispatcher of all duties performed as required by post.
Demonstrate an understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation and internal and external disaster plans.
Patrol or remain at assigned post as required and complete all post specific duties.
Conduct metal detector searches in the Emergency Department using a magnetometer and/or hand-held scanning devices. All patients and visitors entering the Emergency Department will be searched and all bags, backpacks, briefcases, knapsacks, purses, or parcels will be placed on a table and searched. The Security Officer will wand all new admissions to the Emergency Department, inclusive of the belongings and/or the patient as appropriate. When completed, this activity must be called in to dispatch via radio to be logged.
Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
Complete training and obtain certification for Non-Abusive Psychological and Physical Intervention (NAPPI) within six months of hire and annually.
Complete training and obtain certification for the X-2 Taser Training within the first year of hire and annually.
If required for the job assignment: complete training and obtain certification for the Armament Systems and Procedures (ASP) baton certification within the first year of hire and annually.
Complete and maintain First Aid training provided by Cleveland Clinic Akron General.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED.
Valid Ohio driver’s license.
One year of experience as a Security Officer or a similar role OR honorable discharge from military service OR completion of coursework in higher education in a criminal justice or related field.
Meets the standards of the Basic Physical Fitness Standards upon hire and annually.
Insurable and meet expectations of the Cleveland Clinic Transportation & Fleet Vehicle policy/plan.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or willing to obtain within three months of start date.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field.
Completion of Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) approved Private Security Academy.
