What you'll do:

The Financial Control Associate Director will be responsible for assisting the Financial Control Director leading and executing the SOX Program to ensure compliance with the Sarbanes Oxley Act and FDICIA requirements (together "ICOFR"). In addition, this individual will assist with development of SOX Program framework, governance, and oversight to monitor, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of each program. This role reports to the Financial Control Director and is responsible for assistance with preparation of presentations to appropriate management, SOX Steering Committee (SSC), Board of Directors (i.e. Audit Committee), and external audit, where appliable, including any issues/control deficiencies identified and the plan for resolution. This role is also responsible for oversight of lower-level staff including managers, supervisors and staff, senior analysts both directly via reporting lines and indirectly via day-to-day assistance.

What we are looking for:

  • Prepare risk assessment and initial validation with key stakeholders including external audit and internal management. Risk assessment preparation includes for ICOFR to determine key areas, including but not limited to: business processes, IT systems/interfaces and critical reports and spreadsheets; 
  • Maintain inventory of key controls with assistance of SOX staff to ensure identified material risks to the financial statements are mitigated;
  • Review and decision prior to approval by Director issuance of control deficiencies.  In addition, partner with business leaders to determine appropriate remediation actions for timely and effective resolution; 
  • Collaborate and direct staff/co-source collaboration with business leaders during execution of various phases within the program as well as provide initial assessment of implementation of business initiatives, and related SOX impact, to ensure readiness of control environment and compliance;
  • Prepare reporting materials, support iteration by Director and DCAO, and review meeting minutes prior to Director communication to SSC quarterly.
  • Participate in external auditor discussions both ad-hoc and formal meeting cadence as well as prepare draft Audit Committee of the Board materials to support Director, support iteration by Director and DCAO. Presentations will include summary of findings, remediation efforts and ongoing initiatives as well as standing and ad-hoc items as requested by the committees. 
  • Build a relationship with external auditor leadership and coordinate through ad-hoc and formal periodic meetings within external audit team including IT.
  • Participate, in conjunction with Director, in other external activities beyond consolidated audit such as CSI, WATC, and various SOC 1s outside of in scope for ICOFR; 
  • Assist with effective communication to facilitate proactive assessment of the Company's risk profile and ensure alignment and on time delivery of test work to be utilized by the external auditor to support both ICOFR and FDICIA assessments;
  • Prepare initial annual FDICIA filing with required regulators to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements as defined 12 CFR Part 363;
  • Foster productive relationships with management and business leaders throughout the organization to ensure SOX Program continues to be a trusted business partner and has effective two-way communication in relation to potential risk that may lead to misstatement of financial reporting;
  • Notify and assist Director of concerns to ensure staffing needs are met with sufficient knowledge and experience. This includes mentorship of existing team members for continued development and monitoring capabilities are sufficient to meet program needs;
  • Provide final review on detailed testing, already reviewed by lower levels and co-source partner, to ensure consistent work product. Assist in development of templated language and approach beyond the SOX Program framework;
  • Manage and deepen relationship with co-source partner as well as provide feedback on the co-source model/provider, as needed. This includes providing constructive feedback to the co-source partner on detailed testing to ensure maturation of the programs long term and a sufficient work product;
  • Decision testing outcomes, prior to Director, and once final manage formal communication of deficiency notification to the business and work with management to determine appropriate remediation plans to timing to mitigate identified risk.
  • Ensure issue management input into system of record and status updates are completed based on documented guidelines prior to Director review during reporting cycles however input and updates may be done by other team members prior to AD review;
  • Facilitate growth of team members, assist with interviewing and decisioning open requisition candidates who apply/interview;
  • Assist maintenance of the software system of record and related vendor relationship (currently Workiva) as well as suggest required enhancements to ensure software is effectively utilized and customized to deliver well-documented and sufficient work product within both programs.

What you need to have:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience with increasing responsibility in internal controls at a public company, relevant internal audit experience, and/or public accounting experience required.
  • Experience in the financial services industry is a plus;
  • Minimum of 2 years in a role managing team of employees directly or indirectly; 
  • Professional certification as a Certified Public Accounting (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is preferred;
  • Working knowledge of internal control analyses and risk assessment methodologies, COSO framework, Institute of Internal Auditor (IIA) standards, FRB Supervisory Letter 13-11 standards, GAAP, and/or Sarbanes-Oxley Section 302/404 requirements and PCAOB standards;
  • Ability to maintain relationships across various levels of the organization, influence others beyond direct team and collaborate with various stakeholders including executive leadership to drive and implement change;
  • Must be highly effective at project management and oversight of team project management as well as communicating issues through emails, written reports/formal memos, verbal discussions, ad-hoc conversations/questions
  • Exceptional organizational skills as well as communication and interpersonal skills are required;
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or other related field required. Masters degree in relevant field is a plus;
  • Extremely detail-oriented and proficient in Microsoft Office applications.  Experience with other applications including Workiva and/or Alteryx is a plus;
  • Ability to travel regionally up to 20% and willingness to work outside normal during high volume times such as prior to 10-K filing.
