Shift Available: Part-time Days (24 hours/week) 6:45a-6:45p

Medicine Stepdown/Intermediate 7W unit consists of 27 beds, 11 Step Down and 16 Med Surg beds. Medicine Stepdown/Intermediate unit is looking for motivated, compassionate, and disciplined nurses craving a stimulating, learning experience, and a strong team environment! This unit cares for a variety of both lower acuity and complex critically ill patients with multifaceted disease processes requiring higher level of care and closer monitoring.  The Medicine Stepdown/Intermediate unit offers a challenging environment where you can develop and enhance your complex nursing skills while making a significant impact on your community!

The Collaborative Care Model is an innovative new strategy dedicated to making sure that the Post Trauma unit has the right resources at the right place for our patients in a way that can be easily modified it to the patient's unique needs. In this model, a collaborative team made up of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Care Team Associate will be assigned to a certain number of patients. In addition to those primary roles, there will also be additional support staff of a direct care pharmacist, a phlebotomist, and an EVS (Environmental Services) attendant. This model puts all the right people in all the right places to give the best care we can to our patients.

General Description:

Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position.  Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position. 

  • Will assist with the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
  • Provide care according to an established nursing plan.
  • Observe changes in patient’s condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
  • Provide routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement and discontinuing of oral-gastric tube.  Will initiate and monitor oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
  • Will suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
  • May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal and topical medications.
  • Prepare patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
  • An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.

General Responsibilities:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Completion of educational requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.

Experience: None required. One or more years of experience preferred.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact LPN License (eNLC).  Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, plan and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients.
  • Must be knowledgeable about operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
