We are currently recruiting for a Managing Director for our Leveraged Finance Division in Frankfurt.

Function positioning 

 

Leveraged Finance (“LF”) is responsible for the origination and execution of LBO’s with financial sponsors alongside PE Sponsor CoverageIt is also responsible for working alongside relationship managers and other coverage functions within the bank for the origination and execution of transactions for leveraged corporates. 

 

The core functions of this role are: 

  • Lead the Leveraged Finance origination and execution effort in DACH, Nordics and CEELead leveraged finance transactions elsewhere within EMEA as part of the broader Leveraged Finance teamGenerate deal flow consistent with our sector vertical approach, target size range and geographic focus 
  • Provide Leveraged Finance product expertise in origination and execution alongside regional corporate Relationship Managers for onboarding of corporate clients who have leveraged capital structures 
  • Work collaboratively with Capital Markets teams in EMEA and globally when originating and executing Leveraged transactions with loan underwriting or HY opportunities 
  • Work collaboratively with PE Sponsor Coverage and Mid-Market Direct Lending teams to assist in executing the broader strategy to grow mid-market lending products and maximise cross sell amongst sponsor clients and their portfolio companies 
  • Work collaboratively within MUFG’s Global Sponsor Coverage frameworks to provide seamless connectivity to Sponsors and to maximise revenue opportunities with colleagues in the U.S. and Asia 
  • Support the Head of Leveraged Finance in the management of the LF business.  Provide input into MUFG’s Leveraged Finance strategy in EMEA with a view to driving sustainable growth 
  • Provide product expertise to Capital Markets in the marketing and execution for transactions involving High Yield Bonds, loan underwritings and bridge to bond transactions with respect to LBOs for Private Equity Sponsors and transations for Leveraged Corporates 

 

You can achieve this by: 

  • Origination and execution of LBO’s with financial sponsors, driving growth in line with MUFG’s OtoD strategy
  • Provision of Leveraged Finance product expertise in origination and execution for corporate clients who have leveraged capital structures
  • Credit responsibility for LBO portfolio within EMEA GCIB and specifically within MBE subsidiary
  • Cross sell MUFG’s full product suite where appropriate
  • Support the Head of Leveraged Finance in running the group’s day-to-day activities
  • Provide additional strength as part of the 1st line of defense, pursuing transactions consistent with the identification, assessment, monitoring and management of risk in Leveraged Finance in line with MUFG’s risk appetite
  • Provide product expertise to Capital Markets in the marketing and execution for transactions involving High Yield Bonds, loan underwritings and bridge to bond transactions with respect to LBOs for Private Equity Sponsors and transations for Leveraged Corporates 

 

In order to be successful in the role, you will need the following skills and experience: 

Working experience including: 

  • Transaction/product experience across TLA, TLB, HY and 2nd lien instruments
  • Highly experienced in DACH PE origination with a proven, measurable track record of working within the PE community (minimum 10 years’ experience)
  • Established relationships with a core set of European PE Sponsors and demonstrable track record of successfully developing relationships at MD level within these organisations
  • Significant transaction experience in DACH and other European regions, comfortable working in different cultures and capable of flexing style to accommodate our target sponsor client base
  • Track record of ability to manage execution of transactions (including relevant U/W and credit process) within tight timeframes
  • Track record of collaboration with other internal stakeholders/divisions
  • Global perspective, with experience in managing a variety of cultures and cross border transaction experience (US and Asia)
  • Proven track record in multi bank (O&D) driven processes
  • Experience in successfully managing teams in a change environment
  • Preferred would also be: Track record of originating, structuring and executing mid-market transactions in DACH; Experience with levered corporates; Experience leading a group or team

Functional / Technical Competencies including: 

  • Detailed understanding and demonstrable practical experience in sub investment grade cash flow modelling, structuring and documentation
  • Deep familiarity with leveraged debt capital market products and processes
  • Knowledge and profile with the DACH and wider European financial advisor community
  • Demonstrable negotiation skills with internal partners and external clients. Significant experience in negotiating essential
  • Origination and execution skills across leveraged debt capital markets products
  • Management, leadership and mentoring skills to manage the resources within the group to develop individuals from both a technical perspective and a career progression perspective
  • Demonstrable existing relationships with the PE community and ability to develop new relationships
  • Excellent presentation skills (previous experience presenting at Board level and at external conferences)
  • Strong credit and risk management skills to appropriately limit risk to MUFG
  • Demonstrable cross selling skills to drive revenue opportunities across MUFG’s product suite, both at the portfolio company and sponsor level
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
