Our department is looking to add a Patient Companion to their Float Pool. As a caregiver in the Float Pool, you will work with diverse populations of patients in numerous units, departments and/or locations while learning from many of our best caregivers. 


A caregiver in this position works variable shifts, from 6:30am—7:00pm or 6:30pm—7:00am.  


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry. If assigned to a closed unit, you will observe three to four patients.  

  • Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.  

  • Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers, ambulation 

  • Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.  

  • Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.  


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • A high school diploma or GED.  


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Heartsaver level of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it within three months of hire.  

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
