Position summary

Development team delivers high quality deliverables using continuous integration, follows Agile and Lean principles, architect, design and develop solutions for challenging problems using latest tools and technologies. Development team takes pride in delivering innovative solutions to add value to corporate actions business.

We are looking for a proactive, self-starting and experienced Dev Lead to join its operations. This position is ideal for a hands-on technical lead who has a good understanding of development methodologies and process and experience applying them within an organizational setting.

As a lead position, this role requires an individual who can take overall ownership for the development process, working with stakeholders to ensure releases are delivered on time and develop the system according to design/processes and managing risks where appropriate. In addition to team management this position will involve hands-on development build as well. Application uses core technologies like Java, Oracle, ActiveMQ, Apache Kafka, ElasticSearch, RestFul APIs.

The role offers extensive business and technical challenges in a highly dynamic and collaborative work environment and an opportunity to mentor junior team members.


Duties & accountabilities

We’re looking for a strong and dynamic techno-managerial individual to develop and support a highly scalable platform. Experience in designing scalable robust applications and leading development team to attain that goal is a must.

  • Design, develop and implement highly transactional and scalable applications
  • All aspects of database development (modelling, stored procedures, performance tuning)
  • Should be able to understand non-functional requirements like performance, scalability, reliability aspect of the application
  • Collaborate and share technical and business knowledge to members of the development team and wider organisation. Analyse existing designs and interfaces and creating design extensions or enhancements
  • Apply strong technical skills and good business knowledge – together with investigative techniques and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues in a timely and efficient manner
  • Managing a team of Dev Engineers, assigning tasks and tracking progress to completion.
  • Responsible for planning all development activities and managing development environments to ensure timely and compliant releases.
  • Identify and implement improvements in the development process, including automation.
  • The candidate will be expected to take ownership of development tasks and will produce high quality software to deliver on these tasks.
  • The candidate is expected to be well versed in principles and best practices in software development and should be able to apply them within the boundaries and constraints of the project they work in.

Business competencies

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 13+ years’ experience in building applications using Java & Spring platform with expert level java coding experience
  • People management experience - 2- 3 years
  • Significant hands-on experience on designing scalable robust applications
  • Strong experience in relational Databases like Oracle, designing normalized or de-normalized database, writing SQL queries & stored procedures and analyzing & fixing performance issues.
  • Experience in profiling an application to troubleshoot issues, monitoring system performance (CPU, memory, processes, threads, network etc.) is a plus
  • Experience in Spring Integration framework, RESTful services, Spring Batch, Spring REST, Spring framework, Spring Boot,
  • Proficient in OOPS, Design Patterns and Data Structures.
  • Knowledge of Test Driven Development and ability to write units tests leveraging frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, JMock etc. for extensive unit-testing
  • Experience with build & release tools like Maven and Continuous Integration

  • Soft skills to be able to guide and mentor team
  • Track record of good quality timely deliverables
  • Ability to manage the Dev efforts, identifying and assigning tasks to team members and tracking through to completion.
  • Able to provide regular progress and status updates to key stakeholders.
  • Ability to take ownership and lead projects streams independently with little or no supervision.
  • Experience of performance management of individuals
  • Proficient in Agile development methodology
  • Experience with any reporting framework like Jasper Reports
  • Knowledge of ElasticSearch, Apache Kafka, NoSQL
  • Experience working on analytic solution on high volume data using event driven architecture

Commercial awareness

Knowledge of Corporate Actions business is huge plus. Knowledge of financial markets or financial feeds would be very useful

Management requirements

Must have strong interpersonal, analytical and communication skills 

Ability to prioritize work for individual and team

Demonstrated ability to work in a globally distributed software development team.

Work closely with Dev team, QA team and BA team members globally to deliver high quality solutions in aggressive time frames
