About Correctional Health
St Vincent's Correctional Health Service (SVCHS) at Port Phillip Prison (PPP) provides primary health and mental health and secondary medical health care to prisoners at Port Phillip Prison, Laverton. Port Phillip Prison is a maximum security male prison accommodating approximately 935 inmates and is situated 20 km West of Melbourne. SVCHS works collaboratively with Forensic Mental Health Services (FMHS) who provides secondary outpatient and inpatient care for those prisoners with a mental illness.The Psychiatric Nurse will work within primary psychiatric services at Port Phillip Prison. SCVHS are responsible for the provision of all primary care and referrals to FMHS for secondary mental health services

About the Role
As part  of the  Primary Mental Health team you will provide psychiatric nursing services to the patient population at Port Phillip Prison.  The position involves the following interventions,  including but not limited to patient treatment, management and assessment  and ongoing reviews, crisis assessment, development of risk management plans and engaging the patient in the development of their mental health recovery plans, referrals to  other service needs, discharge planning and liaison with external stake holders


Classifications for this position will be RPN Grade 3 NP81 – NP74 ($99,439 - $110,432 per annum pro rata).

Duties

  • Provide high quality  care to all patients and undertake mental state examinations

  • Ensure documentation is completed in the electronic medical record and referrals to  other services are recorded

  • Review presentation for those patients  previously  identified as being at risk  of self harm or injury

  • Participate in case management meetings  for complex cases and those presenting with  challenging behaviours

  • Provide support and attendance to those patients in a restrictive environment


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Degree, Diploma or Certificate in  Nursing that  meets the requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Current Practicing Certificate

  • Post registration qualifications in relevant area of speciality - Mental Health

  • Current  driver's licence
