POSITION PURPOSE:

Using strong organizational, customer service and communication skills the incumbent handles multiple tasks concurrently.  Primarily providing support for the physician(s) and other office staff in a medical office setting.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Answers incoming phone lines, screen calls and takes messages for physician and support staff. Documents phone calls into the EMR, tasking to the appropriate personnel.
  • Schedule patient appointments for office visits with physician, ancillary outpatient testing at hospital, or referrals to other physicians, using the PCIS/EMR.
  • Prepares and pulls paper charts for future appointments as requested by nursing staff, prior to appointment, looks up pertinent information related to today’s visit from Cerner, lab, x-ray, EMR, etc.
  • Keeps physician and nurses informed of the current schedule and any changes to schedule.
  • Enters daily appointments and shows, cancels, no shows, reschedules, into the PCIS.
  • Verifies orders through PCIS.

SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year experience working in a medical receptionist role preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on assigned unit.  Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served.  Able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, needed by the pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric patient group.
