Grand Valley State University is hiring part-time Clinical Instructors to support Secondary Teacher Candidates in their semester-long clinical experiences during the Fall and Winter semesters.

Summary:

Clinical Instructors serve as a liaison between secondary schools and the University and are primarily responsible for providing guidance and feedback on planning, instruction, assessment, and professionalism to Teacher Candidates across the semester. Employment is part-time and based on semester enrollment. Compensation rates vary and are based on assigned number of students and clinical experience requirements. 

This position is flexible in workload and work schedule. Clinical Instructors are required to travel to PK-12 school sites and have access to a reliable vehicle, personal laptop computer, and smartphone. Mileage reimbursement for travel to PK-12 schools and a GVSU Parking Pass are provided.

Primary Duties:

  • Observe Teacher Candidates across the semester, provide feedback, encourage on-going reflection, and submit observation reports and assessments by determined deadlines.
  • Communicate and work directly with Teacher Candidates, PK-12 Mentor Teachers, PK-12 Administrators, and University Field Directors.
  • Create Improvement Plans for Teacher Candidates experiencing challenges in the clinical experience.
  • Submit monthly travel reimbursement claims.

Required Qualifications:

  • Commitment to and documented evidence of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.

  • 8 years secondary teaching experience in own classroom.

  • Master’s degree in educational field.

  • Possession of licensure or eligibility for teacher licensure.

  • Competency with digital tools (i.e., Zoom, Google Drive, Microsoft Word, PDFs, Blackboard) for communication, providing feedback, and documentation.

  • Ability to mentor Teacher Candidates and provide feedback, support, on-going reflection, and problem-solving skills to enhance professional growth.

  • Willingness to collaborate with others to create an optimal learning experience for the Teacher Candidate.

  • Willingness and ability to teach using multiple modes of instruction including in-person, hybrid, and online courses, or deliver courses on weekend or other non-traditional times.

  • Successfully complete GVSU’s online and hybrid training. 

  • Willingness and ability to travel for instruction, supervision, and collaboration with stakeholders to assigned PK-12 school districts.

  • Strong skills in written and verbal communication, organization, and conceptualization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in urban/diverse schools and communities.

  • Experience with culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogy.

  • Experience mentoring and coaching pre-service and/or new teachers.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel is required. Some evening/weekend work may be required.
