POSITION SUMMARY:

Proposes and undertakes a mentored, innovative project or challenge to create opportunities for improving healthcare, therapeutic options, delivery models, quality, and/or training and education. Perform basic molecular biology lab experiments, organize lab notebooks, organize lab reagents, basic animal husbandry and approved procedures

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Carry out the scope of work under the mentorship of a faculty member affiliated with Massachusetts Eye and Ear and/or Harvard University.

· Meet regularly with the Scholar’s mentor to review project progress and milestones.

· Engage in formal and informal discussions with graduate and postgrad students.

· Analysis of data and statistical analysis

· Generate presentations and figures with research data.

· Participate in lab meetings with oral presentations.

· Suggest and discuss methodologies and ideas for the project development.

· Apply engineering principles to the basic science to propose novel systems for therapies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program of study. Good understanding of basic science concepts, how to use PubMed and other online tools

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Lab setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possible lifting of 10 to 20 lbs., depending on nature of chosen project(s).
