Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients, specimens, and medication, throughout the Hospital as assigned. This position reports to the Supervisor, Patient Transportation.

Essential Functions

  • Practicing safe lifting and techniques, transports patients by assisting patients in and out of cars, lifting patients on and off beds, moving patients to and from special services and treatment areas using wheelchairs, gurneys, or moveable beds.
  • Transports medications, patient charts, specimens, and blood appropriately as directed.
  • Transports bodies to the morgue and assists in placing them in the cooler. Assists in moving bodies to the autopsy table.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities provided.

Qualifications

Required

    • Requires successful completion of three months of on-the-job-training.
    • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Upon Hire Or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross Upon Hire.

    Preferred

    • Experience in patient transportation in an acute hospital environment is desired.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
