Pharmacy Tech III - Central Pharmacy Buyer

Job Summary:

To serve as a leader in the pharmacy department by having ownership and accountability for a specific process. To assure that pharmacy operations confirm to established federal and state regulations, university policies, and procedures, and TJC standards and provide for the highest level of delivery of optimum pharmaceutical care.

Education & Experience

High school diploma/GED plus four years of job specific experience that is deemed sufficient for providing leadership and ownership of pharmacy specific process.   Preferred that experience obtained in related work unit at UMMC. Completion of a pre-employment drug screen required.

Certifications, licenses or registration required:  pharmacy technician certification administered by the pharmacy technician certification board (PTCB) or EXCPT certification administered by the national healthcare associated (NHA).  Current UMMC employees who were grandfathered in by MS BOP are exempt from certification requirement.  Pharmacy technician registration with the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescribed medications. Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology, calculations, pharmaceutical techniques and laws.  Skill in use of personal computers and related software applications.  Ability to maintain records and present findings of audits.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and execution of high level pharmacy technician processes including but not limited to pharmacy automation, inventory management, clinical trial coordination, oversight of narcotic record keeping and reconciliation, or other specialized service.
  • Perform quality assurance audits; ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and TJC standards.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of quality improvement measures; maintains records and generates reports as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of medications and related transportation as needed.

Requires occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional travelling to offsite locations, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
