The Vice President, Human Resources- IDEX Energy, is charged with developing, organizing and executing all Human Resources strategies aligned to the business strategic initiatives for both organic growth and growth through acquisition. This includes responsibility for the entire employment process, talent management process, recruitment, employee and employee / labor relations, organizational development, employee compensation, safety, compliance, and employee retention and development. The HR leader is a strategic partner for the Business President.  The role reports directly to the President of IDEX Energy  and dotted line to the Group Vice President of HR.

Key Accountabilities

  • Champions diverse, AA-level teams, talent development and a highly engaged and inclusive culture as a competitive advantage. Develop, implement and maintain world class HR processes to increase the business’ talent pools and sustain top quartile employee engagement.
  • Attract, develop, retain and reward talent across the segment to ensure bench strength and succession, and hold leaders accountable for doing the same within the segment’s business units.
  • Motivate, coach and hold accountable high performing leadership teams.   Foster a culture of trust, team orientation and excellence through leading by example. Set a very high bar for others to follow.
  • Demonstrate strong business partnership to drive platform strategy, utilizing 80/20 as a lens to ensure focus and achievement of key strategic priorities. Champion IDEX Operating Model, inclusive of its talent management and development processes.
  • Serve as a trusted thought leader and coach for group’s General Managers and Leadership Teams. Provide counsel on employee, business, and HR related matters, role modeling servant leadership.
  • Personally invest in the recruitment and development of human resource talent, further building out capabilities and bench within the platform.          Develop and communicate HR Scorecard to management team, highlighting HR metrics and their impact on the business. This role has a team of 3-5 direct reports and has additional indirect reports on those teams. This role will play platform and business unit HR Support in a player / coach format.
  • Build strong relationships with corporate functions and support efforts of and share best practices with other IDEX segments. Actively contribute to the company’s broader objectives and initiatives.

Background & Experience

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 12 years of experience in progressive HR leadership roles. S/he will be a blend of an exceptional business and HR leader with the ability to flex from strategic to tactical as the situation demands. The ideal candidate will have had exposure to diversified and/or decentralized companies and have dealt with the complexities of a broad portfolio of businesses and products. S/he will have expertise in designing, implementing and executing human capital strategies to grow businesses over the long-term, promote customer satisfaction, and improve operational effectiveness. S/he will have a proven track record of building world class operating and HR teams within high performing, engaged and inclusive cultures. Ability to establish credibility and trust with the members of the management teams through a collaborative and partnering style is critical. Residing near a major airport and ability to travel 40-60% of the time is required. Global experience is desired.

The successful candidate will likely have an undergraduate degree in business, human resources, psychology or organizational management. An MBA or another graduate level degree is considered a strong plus.

Leadership Competencies

Strategic Leadership: The successful candidate will need to be comfortable operating (and optimizing) at the portfolio level while being able to engage with the strategy and tactics of the various business units. S/he will have developed and led HR strategies aligned to driving organizational priorities, understanding how value is created for the customers, business, shareholders and employees. S/he will need to be naturally curious and comfortable navigating ambiguity. Orienting the organization to the customer will be critical to success. As a member of the extended HR senior leadership team, this individual will need to have demonstrated strategic business intellect and the ability to collaborate with other leaders resulting in superior business outcomes.

Results Orientation: This leader will have a strong combination of analytic rigor, conceptual ability, creativity, mental flexibility and judgment. Someone who deals effectively with strategic issues, as well as the detailed tactical activity involved in driving high performance around the most important jobs to be done. S/he will have a strong bias for action with a savviness to know when to step back and examine the broader context.  S/he will be someone who sets stretch goals, creates energy around them with the team, and delivers outstanding results through others. Embracing the 80/20 operating philosophy will be crucial. Candidates will have a history of proven results, even when there are obstacles or adverse circumstance working against the business by taking initiatives to offset these negative trends in the short term. S/he will be someone who provides a good balance between risk taking and prudent judgment. Must be willing and able to “roll up the sleeves.” S/he keeps internal and/or external customer(s) in mind at all times, strives to proactively address customer concerns and needs and assists business partners and customers in achieving their work goals via application of their own skills and knowledge. Ability to work collaboratively and as a member of a team while empowering business leaders and colleagues and emphasizing accountability.

Talent and Team Leadership: A highly motivated team player that contributes to an atmosphere in which people work together to produce outstanding results.  A demonstrated track record of building world-class teams through proactive investment in recruitment and executive development. Someone with a keen eye for talent, who can thoughtfully assess capability gaps and build plans for addressing organizational needs. Leading by example and demonstrating high personal energy and influence in every interaction, s/he will have the ability to energize and motivate the organization around the purpose, vision and direction; creates followership. S/he will have been successful working with diverse teams in different environments and cultures and be able to point to specific examples where they have developed future leaders. This candidate will have proven ability to develop talent, coach, and mentor employees and create a culture of employee accountability and engagement. Collaboration and Influencing: S/he must be a good listener with outstanding interpersonal qualities and a natural, effective consultative style. Someone who is sought out for their opinions and counsel and who can forge and maintain close relationships, both internally and externally. Gaining the support and involvement of key internal constituencies will be critical to success, as will influencing those important constituencies external to the organization. The successful candidate must therefore have excellent skills at influencing outcomes and shaping and catalyzing dialogue across and outside the organization. Credibility and integrity are critical attributes to effectively command the respect and trust of key individuals.

Enterprise Leadership: The successful candidate will easily navigate the enterprise, group and individual business units, striking the right balance of embracing the decentralized, entrepreneurial mindset with pulling in the right resources and stakeholders from across the organization at the appropriate times.  Building strong relationships with corporate leadership and peers within the segment and throughout IDEX will be key. As a senior human resources leader, s/he will shape enterprise strategies and HR processes, policies and programs leading to outperformance. In the spirt of continuous improvement, seeks to uncover opportunities to maximize impact, create value, and iteratively acts on internal and external customer feedback.
