The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Transactions & Total Portfolio Risk Co-op Student/Intern for the Winter and/or Summer (January to April or August 2025) work terms to support the Investment Strategy & Risk team. You will work with the Transactions & Total Portfolio Risk team within the Investment Strategy & Risk department. The Investment Strategy & Risk (ISR) department plays a key role in BCI’s long-term investment strategy by influencing and advising on investment decisions made by clients, management and asset classes.
ISR consists of three branches: Investment Strategy, Investment Risk and Strategic Asset Allocation.
Investment Research & Governance advises on and influences total portfolio investment strategy and governance. This includes maintaining macroeconomic perspectives, evaluating ESG opportunities and long-term trends, benchmark governance and the design and implementation of total portfolio approaches and solutions.
Strategic Asset Allocation assists clients with developing tailored investment policies that achieve their investment objectives consistent with their investment philosophies, funding policies and risk tolerances.
Investment Risk includes the maintenance of systems for monitoring, measuring, and estimating various forms of relevant investment risks across the various asset classes that BCI currently invests or may invest in and aggregating that risk at a total fund level.
Assist in performing industry and company research (private equity, Infrastructure, etc.)
Provide support in responding to requests other teams/departments in BCI
Assist with the production of risk assessments for potential new investments
Assist with what-if analysis for new deal/product/instrument
Assist in the development/production of dashboards for asset classes and the BCI total fund
Help validate and document data procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency with projects specifications
Ad-hoc projects in VBA, SQL, Matlab, Fabric, and more
Students in graduate programs such as Risk Management, Finance, Statistics, Economics, Business etc. are preferred
B+ equivalent cumulative GPA
Familiarity with various financial instruments
Has relevant prior co-op experience at a bank or investment firm
Demonstrates an ability to gather and process large amount of data and information and present it in a concise manner
Demonstrates an extremely strong work ethic and displays initiative to strive to deliver value above and beyond the job description
Familiarity with VBA, SQL, MatLab and Bloomberg are preferred
Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills
Participates in a student investment club or other investment case competitions
Have a passion for investment management, a dedication to challenging work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn
Analytical and problem-solving abilities

Competitive pay: Mid Office: $2,260.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary ($2,260.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) a graduate degree or joining the Investment Strategy & Risk department)
