POSITION PURPOSE:

This position serves as the Hawaiian Culture resource and assists in the implementation of the Hawaiian Cultural Programs. To coordinate and lead a comprehensive program of Hawaiian cultural classes, programs for children and adults. Create a cultural sense of place, education and enthusiasm to participants. This position is to assist the Director of Culture in an ongoing cultural sense of place training for associates. Implement initiatives as it relates to the Hawaiian Culture. Must be able to engage and involve guest, owners and associates in sharing the knowledge of our Hawaiian culture.

• Responsible for leading family cultural experience programs.

• Guest service and assistance related to cultural programs as well as general needs for information and direction. To communicate and promote cultural experiences and resort special event programs to owners and guests.

• Maintain and oversee all cultural areas, Cultural Center and any other areas used for related cultural activities, ensuring adequate levels of all supplies throughout all cultural areas, including cultural calendars, cultural boards and cultural event flyers. Maintain assigned equipment, report maintenance issues to the Director of Culture and/or other managers as needed.

• Collaborating and coordinating as needed with other resort departments on cultural experiences and events

• Planning and organizing cultural experiences within the resort which include children and adult programs, special events, conference, recreation and holiday programs.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• 18 years of age minimum

• Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace, English and Hawaiian.

• Must have basic knowledge of hula, ukulele, lei making & oli.

• Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.

• Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Ability to convey a cultural sense of place with enthusiasm to the participants. • Fast learners who can process information including culture, Hawaiian language, science, Hawaiian history, nature and communicate to owners and guests

• Confident demeanor and ability to “think on feet”

• Enjoys being with people and has a genuine care for their wellbeing and experience

• Basic computer literacy; Excel, PowerPoint, Word & Publisher.

• Positive attitude and openness to feedback for improvement

• Showmanship and stage presence is essential

• High level of energy
