The Alcohol & Drug Recovery Center, part of the Neurological Institute, provides comprehensive, team-based care for individuals with chemical dependency, offering both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs, including intensive outpatient group therapy. The center emphasizes personalized treatment plans, relapse prevention and long-term recovery, combining behavioral therapy, medical support and ongoing peers and professional guidance. As an Alcohol & Drug Rehab Counselor focusing on one-on-one patient care and full assessments to recommend appropriate group therapy, you will plan, implement and provide counseling and educational services for individuals in substance use rehabilitation. In this role, you will help patients navigate recovery, provide support and guidance, and make a meaningful difference in their lives.

A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform assessment, planning and implementation of counseling and education services for substance abuse rehabilitation patients. 

  • Provide assigned patients with counseling case management.  

  • Systematically and continually assess the patient's coping mechanisms in collaboration with the patient/family. 

  • Utilize appropriate teaching methods and/or referrals to ensure patient/family educational needs are met. 

  • Assess, collaborate and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs and readiness for discharge with other members of the care team. 

  • Conduct 1 on 1 patient care and chart patient progress.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Master's degree

  • Current state licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Social Worker (LSW)

  • One year of experience in human behavior, including individual group psychotherapy diagnostic formulation and psychological testing

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Current state licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW)

  • Certification as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CADC)

  • Comfortable with 1 on 1 patient interaction and assessments

  • Experience in Substance Use Disorders

  • EPIC experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to navigate throughout the hospital and manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer entry on a PC and keyboard.

  • Requires frequent sitting, standing and data entry.

  • Normal or corrected vision, hearing and speech.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
