The work
Industry X is one of five services that make up one Accenture – the others are Strategy & Consulting, Technology, Song and Operations. At Industry X (IX) we work in the world of Research & Development, Product Design & Engineering, Connected Devices, Manufacturing & Operations or Smart Services.
Team(s)
In general, IX is a diverse and dynamic team of innovators, visionaries, and problem solvers in the fields of Industrial Design, Engineering and Manufacturing.
Part of Industry X is IX Industrial design, a group of more than 50 creatives, including industrial designers, design engineers, UX/digital designers, strategists, researchers, developers, and project managers. Here both physical products and digital experiences are designed, creating innovative solutions that seamlessly connect both worlds. Through proof of concepts and prototyping, ideas are iterated upon and refined into scalable solutions that inspire confident decision making.
You will get a dedicated mentor to help you define your learning goals and find the projects that suit you and your goals best.
Daily tasks and Requirements
You will work on a variety of projects across our two domains, Industrial Medtech & High-tech, and Consumer Goods & Services. Please indicate which of the four roles below you are applying for.
Design Engineer intern
Are you eager to gain hands-on experience in the dynamic field of industrial design? Do you enjoy working on cutting-edge products that merge the physical and digital worlds?
You will come up with innovative and creative solutions to design problems, participate in creative and brainstorming workshops, visualize and 3D model (your) ideas, and build both physical and digital prototypes ranging from early mock-ups to advanced demonstrators.
Specific requirements of this role:
Familiarity with 3D modelling software (e.g. Rhino, Solidworks, Creo)
Experience with prototyping and crafting physical models (e.g. 3D printing, power tools, finishing, foam)
Being comfortable in visualizing your and others’ ideas and concepts, both analog and digital (e.g. in Procreate, Adobe Suite)
Affinity with manufacturing processes (e.g. molding, metals)
(Nice to have) Experience with rendering software (e.g. KeyShot)
(Nice to have) Experience with digital prototyping software like ProtoPie
Sustainability Engineer intern
Do you want to gain experience in the ever-evolving field of industrial design? Do you like to work with innovative products service systems for a sustainable future? Then you will be part of our sustainability team.
You will participate in creative and brainstorm workshops, develop innovative technology-driven solutions to sustainable design problems, linking circular design strategies with tangible product features.
Specific requirements of this role:
Passion for sustainability and a good understanding of circular economy and r-strategies
Familiarity with 3D modelling software (e.g. Rhino, Solidworks, Creo)
A basic understanding of how specific design features increase or decrease circular potential of a product
Interest and a basic understanding of product assessments and mapping, evaluating the environmental and social impact of products
Open for collaboration with engineers, designers, and suppliers to align sustainability goals
(Nice to have) Experience with Disassembly Mapping
(Nice to have) Experience with systems thinking and product service systems (PSS) approaches for design
Creative Technologist intern
Are you excited to explore the space where technology, UX, and industrial design intersect? Do you enjoy experimenting with emerging tech and building interactive prototypes that bring ideas to life?
You will explore and prototype new interactions across physical and digital products, translate design concepts into quick functional prototypes, collaborate with designers in creative and technical workshops, experiment with emerging technologies to inspire new solutions, and develop simple digital interfaces or interactive demos.
Specific requirements of this role:
Familiarity with prototyping tools relevant to creative technology, like Web Prototyping (HTML/JS/CSS), and digital prototyping with Figma
Experience building front end web applications
Being comfortable in visualizing your and others’ ideas and concepts, both analog and digital (e.g. in Procreate, Adobe Suite)
You are comfortable with quick experimentation/iteration and learning new tools
(Nice to have) Integrate basic electronics into prototypes
(Nice to have) Skills in building interactive demos or small software prototypes
Design Strategist/Researcher intern
Do you want to gain experience in the ever-evolving field of industrial design? Do you like to work to understand and explore what good design can possibly be with design research and strategic design exploration? Then you will work with both the Design Research Expert team and the Strategic Design Expert team.
You will participate and conduct research for design exploration, including interviewing, observations, testing, and validating concepts (in-person or online dependent on project scope). You will also participate in creative/brainstorm workshops and strategic ideation sessions, come up with innovative and creative solutions to strategic design problems. Strategic design approach for product service system strategies for sustainability innovation, research and analyzing complexity with visualization and systems mapping and service design work such as product journey mapping and assessments.
Specific requirements of this role:
Passion for design strategy and have a good understanding of design research and design exploration
Open for collaboration with engineers, designers, and suppliers to align on strategic design goals
Foundational service design knowledge
Open to connect with people, curious to ask questions and have deep understanding of environment, subject matter
(Nice to have) Have experience in design research, both qualitative and quantitative approaches
(Nice to have) Have interest in storytelling and how to present back key insights and knowledge to designers and clients
(Nice to have) Interest in navigating complexity and enjoy solving systemic problems
(Nice to have) Service and holistic design methodology knowledge

A hands-on can-do attitude
A portfolio of your work showcasing the process, what excites you and the skills you bring.
Proficiency in English.
You are enrolled at a university during the entire length of the internship, pursuing a degree in Design Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Creative Technology, Interaction Design, Strategic Product Design or similar.
You are an EU citizen or enrolled at a Dutch university.
