Caterpillar is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern – NC Programmer to support CNC programming and machining process development within a production manufacturing environment.

This role provides hands-on experience working with NC programs, tooling strategies, and continuous improvement activities while aligning with Caterpillar’s values and competency framework.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support development, modification, and verification of NC programs for CNC machining centers

  • Assist with tool path optimization for cycle time, tool life, and surface finish

  • Participate in CNC prove-out activities under supervision

  • Support documentation of machining processes, setup sheets, and standard work

  • Collaborate with engineers, programmers, and operators to resolve basic machining issues

  • Adhere to Caterpillar safety, quality, and manufacturing standards

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering
    Mechanical Engineering, or related field

  • Ability to work 40 hours ONSITE in Lafayette IN during SUMMER 2026 Semester, with possible extension to Part-time during FALL 2026 (10 – 15 hours onsite)

  • Basic understanding of CNC machining and NC programming concepts

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand GD&T fundamentals

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a manufacturing environment

Summary Pay Range:

$25.00 - $43.00

Intern Hour Rate:

An intern's hourly rate is based on the major/degree being pursued and the number of completed academic hours achieved before the start of the internship.
