This job is instrumental in daily supervision of therapeutic staff. Accurately administers radiation therapy to patients in accordance with the prescription and supervision of the Radiation Oncologist. Maintains complete and accurate treatment documents. Process orders for specific exams required during treatment. Act as a liaison between the physician, patient and the patient’s family. This job must be able to effectively communicate with all members of his/her team. Professionalism is of the utmost importance. Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned area. Demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability for his/her own practice.

Education

Required - Associates of Science with concentration in Radiation Therapy

Preferred - Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Sciences


Work Experience
Required - 5 years clinical radiation therapy setting experience

Preferred - 7 year's clinical experience


Certifications

Required - Registry of Radiologic Technologist and licensed by the State of Louisiana

Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

Preferred - ARRT Licensure, L.S.R.T. Licensure

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of radiation therapy concepts, applications and administration.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all radiation equipment, its use and care.
  • The ability to operate all radiation oncology equipment including but not limited to CT Scanner, Linear Accelerators, Brain Lab System, ARIA, Epic, computers, cameras, styrofoamer, and immobilization devices.
  • Ability to chart accurately and maintain all data pertinent to a patient’s therapy and care.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality, following HIPPA practices.


Job Duties

  • Serves as Chief Radiation Therapist – mentors therapists and serve as a role model.
  • Takes responsibility for professional development and maintaining required clinical knowledge,  technical skills and credentials / Age Specific Competency (self and staff radiation therapists).
  • Performs simulations – fabrication of devices, CT scans and block cutting.
  • Demonstrates effective delivery in patient care –  treatment of patients under radiation therapy.
  • EMR – knowledge of Epic and ARIA for electronic documentation, revise and create new documentation.
  • Document Billing/Statistics – Review charge capture and perform end of treatment audits.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in scheduling and staffing practices to accommodate the needs of the department.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.
