Shift Available: M-F, 8-5pm (no call, no holidays or weekends) 

OU Health is looking for a motivated RN to join our wonderful pediatric diabetes and endocrinology team!  Located on the health sciences center campus in Oklahoma City, our team of physicians and multi-disciplinary health care professionals work together to provide high level care, education, and services to children with chronic endocrine and diabetes medical conditions.  This position encompasses providing a blend of diabetes and endocrine education to patients and their families, creation of education materials, case management, problem-solving and teamwork. This clinic provides the opportunity to gain additional specialty training and continuing education i.e. Pediatric Endocrine Nurse Specialist, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, etc. Generous OU Health employee package including relocation costs and sign-on bonus options for successful candidates. General Description:  Serves as expert and educator, developing and providing specialized nursing education for assigned area. Provides initial and subsequent education related to diagnosis, management, and ongoing care of health-related issues for nurses, patients, and the community. Teaches, develops, and mentors nursing staff and/or caregivers on a broad range of knowledge, skills and activities leading to the development and performance of competent practices.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides Education.  Develops and facilitates healthcare related education for staff and training and education for patients or program participants, families, and communities. Provides feedback and solutions on issues of performance, competence and professional development. Facilitates an environment that values and enhances skill development, knowledge acquisition, and professional growth.
  • Materials Management and Record-keeping.  Creates or assists with development of educational materials for assigned area. Ensures compliance and documentation of records based on regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Coordination. Communicates and markets education programs using appropriate methods, and based on observed or assessed needs. May coordinate training schedule and enrollment.
  • Patient Preparation.  May schedule patient appointments and prepare patients for examination. Records patient histories, collects biological samples, and gathers x-rays and lab reports. Also, has patient charts ready for physician. Takes and records various readings, such as heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, height and weight, temperature.
  • Provides Assistance.  May assist a physician during patient examination.
  • Research Assistance.  Assists with research and publications.
  • Inquiries.   Responds to inquiries and provides protocol-driven advice and instruction for staff, patients or program participants, parents, and caregivers.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirement:

Education:  Graduate from an accredited school school of nursing required.  Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing Board Approved Program preferred.

Experience: 1 year of professional nursing (RN) experience in an assigned healthcare specialty.

Equivalent/ Substitution: Associate’s degree in nursing and a total of 3 years of professional nursing (RN) experience in assigned healthcare specialty.

Licensure/Registrations/Certifications Required: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC). Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of procedures for diagnosis and treatment of health issues.
  • Knowledge of training design, teaching and instruction.
  • Ability to select and use training methods appropriate for the situation.
  • Ability to listen and understand information from the patient, physician, or employee.
  • Ability to multitask and handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally and to actively listen.
