Summary:
Works as part of the Trauma Program to achieve high quality, cost-effective health care throughout Memorial Regional Hospital (MRH) and Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital (JDCH). Works closely with trauma leadership and departments to maintain verification requirements for the organization to drive efficient and effective performance improvement and patient safety process by meticulous data abstraction, injury coding, report writing, and data analysis.Responsibilities:
Codes records for injury and procedures. Identifies, analyzes, and validates the history, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, financials, and survival data of trauma patients treated in the organization.
Analyzes trauma-related documentation and charting for compliance with applicable quality assurance standards, including those of the American College of Surgeons and the State of Florida Office of Trauma.
Assists the Trauma Program staff with developing criteria for patient care evaluation, collecting data for mandatory registry and protocol studies, conducting audits, and maintaining data integrity.
Uses statistical techniques, injury coding, and data analysis for all reporting requests and requirements.

Complexity of Work: Must have knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, or coding knowledge; proficiency in utilizing computers; trauma experience; Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS), Injury Severity Score (ISS), ICD-10 coding familiarity. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Required Work Experience: One (1) year of trauma registry or coding specific experience; or two (2) years of healthcare related experience.
