The Oncology Care Coordinator in this role will be responsible for the coordination of multidisciplinary clinic programs and care continuum for oncology patients from diagnosis to survivorship. You will interact with patients in-person or via phone, act as a communication liaison, perform tumor board tracking, participate in cancer  
committees, and provide patient education for oral medications. This opportunity will not only provide you with plenty of hands-on experience but can also lead you down the path to becoming an Oncology Certified Nurse or Certified Breast Care Nurse. 

 

A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00AM – 4:30PM. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary clinic programs including program development and services. 

  • Navigate the care continuum for patients by collaborating with the Medical Director and act as a "compass" for patients diagnosed and/or receiving therapy. 

  • Ensure timely scheduling of diagnostic work-up, results reporting and communications between patients and the multidisciplinary team. 

  • Promote the multidisciplinary team process and ensure patients receive necessary referrals and follow-up. 

  • Provide efficient and effective care for patients and families and keep current with emerging technologies and treatment trends. 

  • Keep current with emerging technologies and treatment trends. 

  • Coordinate cancer related patient/staff education programs, projects, services and groups. 

  • Assist with community events, evaluate the results and continue outcomes research. 

  • Compile and analyze Quality Improvement data and benchmarking. 

  • Serve as a patient advocate by promoting timely, competent and compassionate care. 

  • Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements and certification/licensure. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate of a professional nursing program 

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in state of Florida 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 

  • Obtain a cancer-specific certification or demonstrate ongoing qualifying education within the timeframe of the facilities accreditation cycle 

  • Knowledge of oncology prevention diagnosis disease process and symptom management 

  • Five years of nursing experience including two years in oncology 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) 

  • Experience in case management mental health program development and community health/home care 

  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
