Join our Sterile Processing team as a Staff Education Specialist, where you’ll play a vital role in elevating staff competency, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting safe surgical patient care. In this pivotal education-focused role, you will lead orientation, competency development, and ongoing training for Sterile Processing team members while serving as a trusted expert and resource across shifts.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee orientation and training for all new Sterile Processing employees.
  • Provide continuing education and skills development for all team members.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge in sterile processing practices, incorporating developmental, cultural, and ethical considerations.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and subject matter expert for Sterile Processing staff.
  • Educate staff on regulatory standards, compliance requirements, clinical issues, and safety practices.
  • Maintain and update orientation manuals, skills checklists, and training materials.
  • Develop individualized training plans for new employees and conduct weekly assessments, adjusting schedules as needed.
  • Assess competency of preceptors to ensure readiness for supporting new staff.
  • Provide targeted re-education for staff when performance issues arise.
  • Coordinate in‑service schedules for new instruments and continuing education topics.
  • Maintain all in‑service records and ensure timely information distribution.
  • Adjust schedule to support employees across all shifts, including occasional weekends, evenings, and nights as pre-arranged.
  • Collaborate with the SPD Manager to communicate educational needs and concerns.
  • Liaison with the OR Clinical Education Resource Team and support OR staff education as needed.
  • Follow policies and procedures to prevent exposure and spread of bloodborne and airborne diseases.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Certification / Licensure

  • Must hold one of the following:
    • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT),
    • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), OR
    • Another approved sterile processing certification.

Experience

  • Five years of experience in Sterile Processing OR
  • Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing certificate program plus three years of Sterile Processing experience.
