As a software engineer with KION North America you will be a software lead for automated guided forklift (AGF) projects. You will be an essential member of the project engineering team with a focus on developing, configuring, testing, and deploying software to control AGF operations, fleet traffic management, and/or location management within the AGF system. Internally, you will work primarily with other software engineers, system engineers, and mechatronic engineers/technicians. Externally, you will work with customer software and IT engineers as well as their third-party integration vendors to specify, develop and test software/associated hardware during the planning and execution/commissioning phases of projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will require 25% travel
- Develop/configure software (onboard robot/AGF, traffic control, location management)
- Deploy proprietary software to customer servers
- Investigate customer inquiries related to potential software issues
- Analyze Customer requirements
- Create technical specifications and test plans
- Perform server and PC setup, software installation (including virtualized servers)
- Work closely with other team members including:
- Software Engineers (onboard, offboard, location management)
- Systems Engineers
- Customer Service Engineers
- Mechatronic Engineers and Technicians
- Project Managers
- Expand technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and/or external courses, reading manuals, researching new technologies/methodologies, and accessing new applications
- Other tasks as assigned by manager
Tasks and Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- 0-4 years of experience in a related role
- Database experience (MS-SQL, Oracle, and others)
- Experience with Microsoft Windows server and desktop editions, knowledge of server hardware and virtualization
- Basic Networking knowledge: firewalls, network protocols, etc.
- Experience with MS Office Suite (including Visio), Visual Studio .NET, C#, C/C++, source control
- Participation in an AGILE software development environment
- Experience with PLCs and/or I/O modules
- Experience with training users on software and writing user manuals and/or help files
- PREFERRED: Knowledge of Material Handling: AGF/AGV, WMS, Case Pick
