Position Summary

Review and assess client properties for tax savings opportunities, develop valuation arguments, and prepare client reports.  In addition, the Sr. Tax Manager researches and maintains knowledge of tax and assessment laws to successfully represent clients at assessment review board hearings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews client records for Property tax refund potential, credits, deficiency assessments, and procedural recommendations

  • Prepares written reports supporting DMA’s position for assessment and taxing authorities; reviews and submits periodic status reports to clients; prepares Letters of Findings for clients

  • Responsible for client account management on assigned clients

  • Updates work-in-process reports

  • Conducts on-site inspection of client plants and operations

  • Responsible to mentor, train, and supervise Tax Consultants and Tax Managers in their practice and procedures

  • Maintains knowledge of Property tax laws, regulations, and court decisions.

  • Represents clients during negotiations and in hearings with assessment and taxing authorities

  • Works with assessment and taxing officials to achieve maximum tax savings

  • Assist Director National Accounts and other business development professionals in scoping and developing customized solutions for new and prospective clients


Education and Qualifications

  • College certificate or University Degree in Real Estate, Economics, or a related field

  • 7-10 years’ prior experience in property assessment valuation methodologies (including ACS costing, income approach and comparative sales analysis), with specific experience in commercial/industrial properties

  • Thorough understanding of municipal taxation systems

  • AIMA designation preferred, and MIMA designation or equivalent appraisal experience desired

  • Self-starter who can function independently and in a team environment

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Some overnight travel required

  • Valid driver’s license
