The Financial Accountant II position is critical to the mission of the university because this position involves handling various accounting tasks such as reaching, examining, and analyzing financial records, documents, and reports using specific software, for example, FAMIS/Canopy, Business Objects, and Argos. It includes managing user access to FAMIS/Canopy by creating user accounts and ensuring that access levels align with job roles. Additionally, it involves preparing and scrutinizing financial transactions to maintain accuracy and compliance with established standards, conducting audits on financial documents to guarantee accuracy and completeness, reconciling accounts for the university, assigning appropriate codes for revenue and expenses, investigating discrepancies, and providing solutions.

This role also includes addressing general accounting inquiries and offering technical assistance regarding accounting procedures, all while ensuring adherence to organizational standards, policies and procedures.

The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position. 


Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties related to the KPVU audit. This includes preparing the Trial Balance to reduce an audit finding.
  • Review and Understand  audit expectations and task, and then completed the task.
  • Preparing the BE-125 Selective Services report, which includes researching payments made to foreign vendors. This is a quarterly report.
  • Assist Director of Accounting with various reports and task.
  • Preparing Endowment Projected Income and Lab allocations.
  • Completing the RFS Certification and Private Use Survey.
  • Act as a backup in the absence of the Accounting Supervisor.
  • Reviews Data Entry batches before Financial Specialist enters batches into FAMIS.
  • Prepares batches for entry and provides instructions to the Financial Specialists as needed.
  • Backs up the Accounting Supervisor concerning all Data Entry responsibilities, including submission of FTP files to FAMIS.
  • Primary general accounting contact working with the reconciliation team to clear all items in a timely manner.
  • Perform USAS Vendor setup for Texas Identification Numbers for disbursement of funds.
  • Fulfill the requirement from the State of Texas, regarding USAS Setup.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Customer service skills..
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree in Accounting,
  • Five or more years of experience in Higher Education Accounting.
  • Ability to prepare Trial Balance Sheets related to audits.
  • Knowledge of BE-125 Selective Services Report. Knowledge of Endowment Projected Income and Lab allocations.  
  • RFS Certification and Private Use Survey background.
  • Supervisor experience.  
  • Familiar with the state of Texas USAS Vendor Setup.

Special Requirements:

  • Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of six years of experience.
