Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer to support the successful execution of engineered orders from initial application review and valve selection through design, manufacturing, shipment, and post-delivery customer support. This role is critical to ensuring technical accuracy, on-time delivery, and high-quality documentation while serving as a key liaison between engineering, production, field service, and customers.
The ideal candidate will bring strong mechanical aptitude, sound engineering judgment, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage assigned customer orders throughout the full project lifecycle, including valve selection support, engineering design, production support, shipment, and customer follow-up.
- Support the application engineering team by reviewing customer specifications and technical requirements to recommend appropriate valve and component selections.
- Create and develop engineering designs and related technical documentation to ensure products meet applicable codes, standards, and project expectations.
- Provide detailed and accurate engineering input for:
- Drawings
- Bills of material
- Quality Assurance Plans
- Design, seismic, and other engineering reports
- Testing procedures and additional technical documentation
- Ensure all required engineering deliverables are completed accurately and released on time to support production and shipment schedules.
- Interface with customers as needed to clarify requirements, resolve technical questions, and support overall project success.
- Work closely with manufacturing and shop floor personnel to address production challenges, resolve technical issues, and maintain project momentum.
- Support the Field Service team and assist in resolving customer issues related to problematic or malfunctioning hardware.
- Contribute to the achievement of annual operational and financial goals for the Raleigh operation.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and cost-reduction initiatives within the engineering department and across the plant.
- Help drive process improvements that enhance quality, efficiency, and responsiveness to customer needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- 3+ years of experience in related field.
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to plan, prioritize, and execute work to meet shipment schedules and customer commitments.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities, including shop floor support, customer needs, and technical documentation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and with internal and external customers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
- Strong mechanical and analytical aptitude, with the ability to assess technical situations and make sound recommendations.
- Ability to prepare clear, professional engineering reports and presentations aligned with company standards and objectives.
- Excellent time management, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- FE/EIT certification strongly preferred; willingness to pursue PE certification as part of the role is highly desired.
- Familiarity with 2D and 3D CAD systems; experience with SolidWorks and ANSYS preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in an engineered manufacturing environment and/or industrial test laboratory.
- Working knowledge of nuclear industry requirements, including:
- ASME Sections II, III, and VIII
- 10 CFR 50 Appendix B
- NQA-1
- Working knowledge of RCC-M code is a plus.
- Knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems is a plus.
