We are looking for a Food Process Engineer to join our food R&D team in Omaha, Nebraska.

As the Process Engineer, reporting to R&D Manager (Engineering), you will support the process technology development across our portfolio of businesses and brands. You will play an essential role in the development of performance-based specifications and optimized system design. Your focus will be on understanding the science that defines transformations within each unit operation, then translating this knowledge into impactful results that are incremental to assigned projects. Located along the Missouri River, our Omaha office is within walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants. Join us for yoga or strength training classes offered at the onsite fitness center. Conagra's R&D facilities in Omaha are state of the art, including a large super lab, open benchtop space for prototype development, a top-of-the-line culinary kitchen, and a 50,000 square foot pilot plant.

What You'll Do:

  • Determine the physical, chemical, and biological transformations that must occur to produce food products meeting customer and consumer requirements. Translate those transformations into clear design specifications and process requirements.

  • Support process development and other activities on projects involving innovation and new technologies.

  • Extend technical purview to understand and challenge processes that influence profitability and cost optimization.

  • Design and execute bench top, pilot plant and plant experiments / trials, either individually or as a member of a technical team.

  • Evaluate results, make conclusions, prepare reports and presentation decks; present and defend with support of supervisor.

  • Help with cost estimates and capital requests for trials and commercial installations.

  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all experimental and design work.

  • Leverage internal and external resources to help analyze problems, identify alternative options, perform tests, foresee consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations to support goals.

  • Conduct literature searches and prepare summaries/conclusions/insights playbooks from them.

  • Define processing operations in terms of procedures, white papers, or other forms of knowledge capture and transfer technical insights to manufacturing facilities.

  • Lead within the organization and champion ideas with business potential; gain organizational support where resistance is initially met with supervisory support.

  • Contribute to the development of process technology pipeline through creativity within and outside of business constraints.

What You'll Bring:

  • BS Chemical, Biological Engineering or related field.

  • 3+ years of relevant, post-graduate experience (not inclusive of internships or co-ops).

  • Knowledge of unit operations and processing equipment in large-scale manufacturing.

  • Experience in optimization and performance management of technical processes

  • Intermediate project management knowledge and skills.

  • Familiarity with design of experiments, statistics tools and software (i.e. Minitab).

Physical Requirements:

  • Work in and around cramped/confined spaces

  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended work days to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions.

  • Use of tools, equipment, and machinery

  • Driving a company or rental vehicle for up to 6 hours as needed

  • May travel up to 25% of the time on average, with peak travel reaching 40%. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible CAG representative.

  • Exposure to food tasting and smells including all food allergens

We require applicants for this role to be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship either now or in the future.

This role is typically in the office Monday - Thursday. Fridays are usually remote.
