Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, you will function as a trainee and gain knowledge in packaging, preparing and distributing medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records. After 12 months, you will have successfully completed and received a diploma in Pharmacy Technology from the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology Program.   

A caregiver in this position works a 16-week schedule, Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm.  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

  • Prepare medications (selection, labeling, repackaging, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding).   
  • Deliver medications to appropriate storage locations.  
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.  
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.  
  • Document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.   
  • Attend and actively participate in team huddles and meetings.   
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.  
  • Maintain good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology Program per the student handbook.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • High School Diploma or GED  
  • Successful completion of the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 12 months of hire
  • Upon hire, registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy is required within 12 months
  • Must obtain Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 12 months
  • Basic computer skills  

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
