For the position of Head of Claims Financial Lines South Africa, we are looking for a new colleague (m/f/d) to strengthen our team.

What you can expect: 

  • Local responsibility for the Financial Lines Claims Team
  • Main point of contact for the team for internal stakeholders and functions (e.g. GM, LoB Heads, HR, FP&A) as well as the face of AIG in the market and representation within Financial Lines claims expertise for large claims.
  • Build a strong relationship with AIG's local and international underwriting.
  • Work effectively with top brokers and clients in South Africa and build and maintain sustainable relationships.
  • Deep technical knowledge of the following Financial Lines - Minor Lines
  • Directors & Officers
  • Cyber Risk
  • Professional Indemnity
  • Mergers & Acquisitions
  • Kidnapping & Ransom
  • Pension Trustee Liability
  • Ensure prompt receipt and analysis of claim notices and legalities related to liability and insurance coverage; develop stakeholder and case plan and determine appropriate reserves; proactively work towards cost and time effective resolution; investigate and lead recovery opportunities.
  • Ensure timely reporting to regional and global headquarters and communication with internal and external stakeholders such as underwriters, actuaries, finance or general management, brokers, customers and attorneys.
  • Ensure internal training and coaching of junior colleagues in technical and other aspects of claims handling, such as negotiation tactics and stakeholder management.
  • Lead and develop the team to ensure high performance, including setting goals, conducting performance reviews, dealing with poor performance, conducting regular team meetings, 1-2-1 meetings, proactive mentoring and coaching.
  • Supporting underwriters in product development and risk analysis for potential new clients, as well as ongoing monitoring of existing key accounts
  • Represent AIG at industry meetings.

Your Profile: 

  • Completed legal education, preferably a fully qualified lawyer
  • Strong communication skills: Able to communicate effectively with executives, external business partners, and regulators in both German and English
  • Proven leadership experience, preferably in an international insurance company
  • Strong influencing skills to achieve goals and build consensus
  • Excellent technical knowledge in the area of financial lines claims
